06/11/13 — Bessie Irene Blevins, 86, of Blaine Trace, Webbville, went to be with her Lord on Monday, June 10, in the Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson. She was born March 12, 1927, in Bruin, a daughter of the late Charlie and Hazel Evans Oney.
Bessie attended the Little Fork United Baptist Church in Elliott County and was a homemaker who enjoyed canning and freezing her home grown vegetables. She was probably best known for making her fantastic grape jelly, which she so generously shared with her loved ones.
She was preceded in death by a son, Darrel Blevins Jr.; a sister, Dottie Oney Webb; and two brothers, Roscoe and Stanford Oney.
She is survived by her husband, Darrell “Tiny” Blevins Sr.; a daughter, Judy Salyers of Grayson; a son, David (Martha Ann) Blevins of Catlettsburg; a brother, Charlie “June”(Thelma) Oney Jr. of Salt Lick; two sisters, Elizabeth “Lib” Blevins of Morehead and Helen Sue Griffith of Amherst, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Loretta Blevins; two sisters-in-law, Bev Oney and Juanita Blevins, all of Webbville; two granddaughters, Darlena (Harlan) Ferguson and Rebecca(Marvin) Deerfield; and three great grandchildren, Walker, Ciera and Gabriel. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Gratitude of thanks is given to Dr. Kari Shields for her professional care and compassion and to a special sister-in-law, Bonnie Blevins Pack, who always made herself available to see about Bessie’s needs during her illness, the staff of the Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and special neighbors, Wes and Sandy Blevins.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 12, at the Sparks Funeral Home by Tim Porter, minister. Burial will follow at the East Carter County Memory Gardens in Grayson.
Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
