May 13, 2010 —  Zachary Taylor Hall 

 1930 – 2010

GRAYSON – Zachary Taylor Hall, 80 of Grayson, passed away May 7, in Hospice Care Center in Ashland Ky.

He was born March 22, 1930 in Grayson, a son of the late Z.T. and Alma Catherin Brammell Hall.

He was a member of the First Church of Christ in Grayson. He was formerly employed by Grayson Motors and Grayson Loan.

Preceding him in death was a daughter Lisa Taylor, a brother Ralph Cassander. His survivors include his wife Barbara Johnston Hall, a sister Mary Will Hall DeSantis, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted May 11, at First Church of Christ in Grayson, Ky.

His pallbearers include: Cass Hall, Mark Hall; Tom Womack; Richard Finley, Jeff Scott, George Brammell; Keith Johnston; Ronald Johnston; Rupert Wilhoit; D.R. Gossett; Tracy Brown; with Honorary pallbearers include; Jack Strother Sr.; Dr. Harold E. Shufflebarger; Judge Henry R. Wilhoit; Ova Kimbleton; John Goebel; James Davis; Roy Glen Adkins, Lucien Reed; William Waggoner, Bennie Burchett; Austin Johnson; James Scott; Ray Wells, and Charles Morgan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Church of Christ, 287 Pomeroy St. Grayson, Ky. 41143; Community Hospice, 1538 Central Ave, Ashland, Ky. 41101.

Larry Dale “Pickle”

Bailey

1944 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Larry Dale “Pickle” Bailey, 65 of Olive Hill died May 20, in the Community  Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

He was born Nov. 19 1944 son of the late Parrish and  Geneva (Miller) Bailey. In addition to his he was preceded in death by his brother Dallas Bailey, one infant brother, and one infant sister.

His survivors include: one  Brother Charles Bailey, of Olive Hill Ky,  three sisters: Lana (Donald) Offill, of Olive Hill. Annette Hamm of Grayson and Shelia (Roger)Felty, of Grayson, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted May 17, at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Randy Binion and Lewis Davis.   

Burial was in the  Biggs Hill Cemetery.

Gladys May Barker

1915 – 2010

GRAYSON – Gladys May Barker, 95, of Grayson, Died  May 13, at the Carter Nursing and  Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.

She was born Feb. 16, 1915 in Carter County, Ky, a daughter of the late Richard Lee Pennington and Dottie Kitchen. Mrs. Barker was a Homemaker and a member of the Little Fork Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Frank Barker, three sons, Gus Barker, Frank Barker Jr. and Bobby Gene Sturgill; one daughter, Patsy Ann Baker; five brothers, James Pennington, Arnold Pennington, Sysco Pennington, Bert Pennington, and Dearl Kitchen; four sisters, Verna Pennington, Lillian Porter, Madge Jackson, and Faye Adkins.

She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Carl) Burchett of Grayson, Dottie Barker and Special Friend Conrad McDavid, both of Grayson, Becky (Michael) Grimett, London, Ohio; one brother, Ray Pennington of Bolts Fork; one sister Opal (Jim) Sapp of Washington State; 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Services were conducted May 16, at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Keith Hill. 

Burial followed in the  Cribbs Hill Cemetery.

Aden Messer

1939 -– 2010

LAUREL ROAD, OLDTOWN  – Aden Messer, 70, of Laurel Road, Ky went to be with the lord, May 17, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland. Mr. Messer was born May 30, 1939 in Marion, Ohio.

Funeral Services were held May 20, at Lower Grassy Church.

Burial followed in the Horsley Cemetery at Carter City, Ky.

Alberta (Bert) Hay

Sammons

1936 – 2010

OGRAYSON – Alberta (Bert) Hay Sammons, 74, of Grayson, Ky, passed away May 16, in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky. 

She was born April 12, 1936 in Carter County, Ky, a daughter of the late Felix Hay and Iris Hay Burton.

She was a retired Registered Nurse in Behavior Medicine employed with Kings Daughters Medical Center.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Charles Sammons; one sister, Mildred Bowling and two brothers, Leroy Hay and Bill Hay. Her survivors include: two daughters, Rebecca and husband Jim Hanley of Louisville, Ky, and Cindy and husband Terry Elliott of Grayson; two sisters, Bonnie Bailey of Mt. Sterling, Ky, and Nancy Jackson of Grayson; one brother, Elmo Hay of Grayson, five Grandchildren, Jason Moore and Jeremiah Moore of Columbus, Ohio, Alisha Blevins of Olive Hill, Ky,  Emily McGonigle of Owingsville, Ky, and Bethany Elliott of Grayson, four great-grandchildren, Jacob Moore, Jamie Moore, Zach Little and Kingston Elliott.

A Memorial service will be held May 20, at 2 p.m. at the Hitchins Wesleyan Church with Julie Halstead, officiating.

Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 12 p.m. until service time at the church.

Judith “Judy” Ann Belcher

1958 – 2010

GRAYSON – Judy Belcher, 52, of Pikeville, Ky, passed away April 16, at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pike County, Ky.

Judy was born Jan 29, 1958 in Pike County, Ky, the daughter of Edith Annette Good and the late Billy Ray Bishop of Grapevine, Ky.

Judy was a Loving Wife & Mother and Grandmother.  She was also a member of the Mt. View Church of Christ, at Mouthcard, Ky. Survivors include her husband of 35 years and 10 months, Stanley Belcher; two sons; Stanley Paul Belcher and wife, Jolinda Belcher of Olive Hill, Ky and Justin Kyle Belcher of Steele, Ky; her father and mother –in –law, Happy and Viola Belcher of Olive Hill, Ky; two sisters; Billie Carolyn “Tiny” Brown of Stone Coal, Ky and Mary Beth Johnson of Jonancy, Ky;  One Brother, Jeffrey Ray Bishop of Kimper, Ky; three sister-in-laws; Rosemary and Jim Roberts of Russell, Donna and Danny Stamper of Olive Hill, and Brenda Belcher of Versailles; One grandchild; Garrett Paul Belcher and two step-grandchildren, Ashley and Brooke Callihan.

She also leaves a host of other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services were conducted April 20, at the Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Frank Crum and Randall Good officiating.

Burial was in the Annie Young Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lincoln Stamper, Tyler Robinette, Seth Shortridge, Ben Looney, Dustin Looney, Dustin Webb.

Velda Ruth Barker

Dunaway

1935 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Velda Ruth Barker Dunaway, 75, of Olive Hill, Ky, went home to be with the Lord, May 16, at her residence with her family surrounded by her bedside.

Mrs. Dunaway was born March 9,1935 in Carter County, Ky, a daughter of the late Millard and Nora Mauk Barker.

Velda was of the Pentecostal faith, a member of United Pentecostal Church of Grayson, she also was a Manager for State Park Dining Systems. Velda was a local Artist, and a Devoted Homemaker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of forty four years, Roy Eugene “Poppy” Dunaway who passed away on October 16, 2009, three brothers; Garland Barker, Delmaine Barker and Joel Barker; two sisters Clara Binion and Thurma Carter; one grandson; Christopher Neil Tackett.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Billy Ray and Joann Tackett of Olive Hill, Kentucky; David Allen and Kay Tackett of Morehead, Ky, one daughter; Debra Ann Adkins of Olive Hill Ky, one brother; Clowell Barker of Olive Hill, Ky, four sisters and brother-in-law; Beulah Binion, Cloma Ruley, Lou Vada and Glen Bond all of Olive Hill, Ky, Marquetta Shaffer of Grayson, Ky, ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She also leaves other family members and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral service will be held 2  p.m May 20, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, with Brother Ronald Knox officiating. 

Burial will follow in Olive Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky.

Friends may call anytime Wed,  and until the service hour Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill Ky.

James Barker, Mike Dunaway, Bill Royse, Jarrod James, Mark Bond and Michael Pack will serve as pallbearers.

 Green Witten Kegley

  1920 – 2010

GRAYSON – Green Witten Kegley is safely in the arms of God. He left this life at the age of 90, on May 15, in Wake Forest, North Carolina.

He was born April 19, 1920 in Elliott County, Ky.

He was the last surviving child of Benjamin Cecil ("Dock") Kegley and Myrtle Howard Kegley Rogers. He is survived by his wife, Wanda Hicks Kegley, and six children, Margaret Bishop and Bob of Louisburg, N.C. Beverly Kegley of Castalia, N.C. Glenna Young and Lynn of Waynesville, N.C. Ellie Knipp and Roger of Olive Hill, David Kegley of Olive Hill, and Chris Pernell and Joey of Wake Forest, N.C. An infant daughter, Wanetta, and a son-in-law, Carlos E. Geyer preceded him in death. Thirteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.

 For more than 30 years, he was pastor of the Smokey Valley Bible Church. During these years many wonderful families and individuals became part of his life and an extension of his family, most particularly the Bear family of Grahn, Ky. While living in North Carolina, he attended St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. He served his country during World War II and was proud to have been a member of Darby’s Rangers, Special Ops, United States Army.

Funeral service will be held 11  a.m. Sat, May 22,  at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, with Steve Webb and Lee Mike officiating.

Burial will follow in the Perry’s Branch Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. May 21, and until the service hour Sat, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky.

 Lionel "Keith" McGlone

 1941 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Lionel "Keith" McGlone 69, of Olive Hill, Ky, went home to be with the Lord, May 17, at Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

Mr. McGlone was born March 7, 1941, in Carter County, Ky, a son of the late Herman and Rebecca Morgan McGlone.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one infant child; one brother; Gordan Douglas McGlone.

Keith was of the Christian Holiness faith, he retired from Ralph’s Supermarket in Grayson, Kentucky and was a lifelong farmer.

He is survived by his wife of forty-nine years, whom he married on Dec. 25, 1961, Loretta Parker McGlone; two sons and daughter in-law; Jeffery Keith and Jana McGlone and Jerry Lee McGlone all of Olive Hill, Ky,one daughter and son-in-law; Lisa Gay and Kelly Porter of Olive Hill, Ky, four grandchildren; Travis Ray and Rebecca Yates, Morgan Ra’shel McGlone, Mackinley James McGlone, Kaylee La’Shel Christian Porter; three brothers and sister-in-law; Paul McGlone of Bucyrus, Ohio; John Fred and Roberta McGlone, Norman McGlone all of Grayson, Ky, one sister and brother-in-law; Evelyn and Talmadge Webb of Clay City, Kentucky. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m May 20 at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, with Nephew Tim Webb, Brother Eugene Rayburn and Brother Lewis Davis officiating.

Burial will follow in the Morgan Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. May 19, and until the service hour Thursday at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky.

Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
