July 8, 2010 — Ronald Jesse Howard

1948 – 2010

GEORGIA – Ronald Jesse Howard, 61, of Loganville, Georgia, formerly of Vanceburg, Ky, passed away July 3, in Loganville, Georgia.

Mr. Howard was born October 9, 1948, in Portsmouth, Ohio, a son of Jesse Howard of Vanceburg, Ky, and the late Avanell Logan Howard.

Ronald was a Contractor and loved fishing, taking walks, and spending time with his children.

He is survived by two children, Nicholas Howard and Rachel Howard, both of Loganville, Georgia; one brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Vickie Howard of Vanceburg, Ky; two sisters and brother-in-law, Debra Howard of Earlysville, Ohio, and Sharon and Jeff Fultz, of Orange Park, Florida. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

A Celebration of Life for Mr. Ronald Jesse Howard was held   July 10, at his father’s residence on Tar Fork Road in Vanceburg, Ky.

Burial followed in the Mawk Cemetery on Tar Fork in Lewis County, Ky.

Globe Funeral Chapel in Camp Dix, Ky, was in charge of    arrangements for Mr. Ronald Jesse Howard.

Austin Johnson

1915 – 2010

GRAYSON – Austin Johnson 94 of Grayson Ky. died, July 7,  at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland Ky.

He was born Dec. 13, 1915 in Carter County Ky. to the late Pearl and Clyde Johnson. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Ruby (Gearhart) Johnson, brother Quentin Johnson, brother Clayton Johnson, brother and sister-in-law Clyde and Wilma Johnson, and brother-in-law Ed Jones.

His Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law James and Sandra Johnson of Grayson, grandson Spencer Johnson of Lexington, sister Daisy Jones of Virginia Beach Va., sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Harry Hane of Virginia Beach Va., sister-in-law Juanita Johnson of Middletown , Ohio, and sister-in-law Lahoma Johnson of Grayson and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was a retired US Postal Service employee of  33 years, a US Army Veteran of World War II, and a member of the Grayson Bagby Memorial Methodist Church.

Funeral services were conducted at July 10, at the Sparks Funeral Home.

Burial was in the Grayson Memorial Park.

Vaughn Porter

1936 – 2010

OHIO – Vaughn Porter, 73, of Mansfield, Ohio, formerly of Elliott County, passed away July 8, at the Mifflin Care Center in Mansfield, Ohio.

Mr. Porter was born Nov. 24, 1936, in Elliott County, Ky, the son of the late Charles Cleveland "Charlie" and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Middleton Porter.

Vaughn was retired from Ohio Brass after twenty-seven years of service.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Bert Porter; three half-brothers, Clell Porter, infants Ed Porter and Clyde Porter; two step-brothers, Gomez Leadingham and James Mackie Leadingham; three sisters, Bonnie Porter, Glow Porter and Virginia Waddell; nine half-sisters, Bess Rose, Laura Mabry, Maxine Rose, Elizabeth Bowling, Geraldine Simmons, Gladys Porter, infants Lennie Porter, Mae Porter and Glory Porter; two step-sisters, Bertlia Stevens and Glenna Jean Evans; and step-mother, Nellie Brown Leadingham Porter.

He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Ron McHenry of Akron, Ohio, Liz Ewers of Mansfield, Ohio, and Anita and Kris Kochheiser of Ashland, Ohio; a loving friend and caregiver, Ruby Weikle and family of Mansfield, Ohio; four grandchildren, Justin McHenry, Jeffery Lunsford, Joshua Lunsford, and Tara Ewers; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Glennis and Arlene Porter, Dale and Judy Porter, all of Mansfield, Ohio, and Raymond "Jewel" and Garnet Porter of Elliott County, Kentucky; one step-brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Gail Leadingham of Lilburn, Georgia; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Joyce Ann Perry of Lake Wales, Florida,, and Eleanor and Dave Wilcox of Warrenton, Virginia; two half-sisters, Dixie Manning of Muldraugh, Kentucky, and Faye Blizzard of Grayson, Ky; eight step-sisters and brothers-in-law, Alberta Craycraft of Lexington, Ky, Donna and Don Owens of Emerson, Ky, Alice and Rodney Kegley of Mableton, Georgia, Sharon and Don Frazier of Grahn, Ky, Connie Lemon and Vickie Mosier both of Glenmont, Ohio, Shelia and George Kiser, Rita and Clifford Roe, all of Olive Hill, Ky. He also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were held   July 11, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, with Brother Jay Stevens officiating.  

Burial followed in the Old Fairview Cemetery in Elliott County, Ky.

Justin McHenry, Jeffery Lunsford, Joshua Lunsford, Jason Williams, Dana Waddell, Raymond Porter, Jr., and Steven Porter served as pallbearers.

Irene Damron Lawson

1914 – 2010

GRAYSON –  Irene Damron Lawson, 96, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on July 8, at Carter Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 19, 1914 in Carter County,a daughter of the late Joe and Leah Blizzard Damron.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Lawson and one brother, J.C. Lawson. She was a former cook with the Carter County School System and was a member of the Hitchins Freewill Baptist Church.

Her survivors include: Two daughters, Beatrice Joy Gillum of Greenup, and Willa McAlister of Grayson; two sons, Thurston Lawson of Grayson and Joe Ray Lawson of Meade Station, 14 Grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted July 11, at Malone Funeral Home with Keith Hill, officiating.

Burial was in the Bowling Cemetery.

Christine (Tina) Harlow Jenkins

1961 – 2010

GRAYSON – Christine (Tina) Harlow Jenkins 48 of Grayson, died July 7.

She was born August 21, 1961 the daughter of Tiney (Smith) Harlow and the late Elton Matthew Harlow.

She was employed by Greenbo Lake State Park and attended Cane Creek Freewill Baptist Church.

In addition to her father she was also preceded in death by her brother Richard Harlow and her sister Cathy Harlow.

Her survivors include her husband Bobby Jenkins. two sons William and his wife (Colette) Jenkins and Jeremy Wayne Jenkins both of Lost Creek, one daughter Patty Jo Jenkins of Everglade City, Florida, four brothers, James Harlow of Elliott County, Vernon Harlow of Vanceburg, Kenneth Harlow, and Dennis Harlow both of Grayson. One sister, Charlotte Salyers of Elliott County. Eight Grandchildren, (Little) Matt, Brandon, Samantha, Tyler, Sierra, Andrew, Waylon, and Olivia.

Funeral services were conducted July 11,at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by the minister John Lybrook.

Burial was in the Ash-Montgomery cemetery.

Jeremy Michael Wilburn

1981 – 2010

OLIVE HILL – Jeremy Michael Wilburn, 29, of Olive Hill, Ky, passed away July 10, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Mr. Wilburn was born May 9, 1981, in Fayette County, Ky, the son of Terry Wilburn of Olive Hill, Ky, and Anita Mason Bosserman of Naples, Florida.

Jeremy was a Carpenter of Local Union 472 and was a member of the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge #629.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Kenton Wilburn.

He is survived by his wife of five years, Cassie Johnson Wilburn of Olive Hill, Ky, a daughter, Brooklyn Michael Wilburn of Olive Hill, Ky; one sister, Tera Wilburn of Olive Hill, Ky; and his paternal grandmother, Katherine Wilson Wilburn of Olive Hill, Ky. He also leaves numerous other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. July 15, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, with Brother Jason Johnson and Brother Dewayne Johnson officiating.

Burial will follow in the Garvin Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill, Ky.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. July 14, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky, and until the service hour Thursday.

Masonic rites will be conducted Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. by the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge #629.

Jason Sammons, Daniel Bailey, Devin Bailey, Mark Brown, Tim Jones, and Paul Dailey will serve as pallbearers. Shannon Nichols, Chase Cecil, Jack Lowe, Chance Cecil, Mark Duncan, and Charlie Holland will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 Lillian Faye

Carroll Conley

1932 – 2010

GRAYSON – Lillian Faye Carroll Conley, 77, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on July 6, at the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.

She was born Sept. 11, 1932 at Upper Stinson, a daughter of the late Mason and Thelma Brainard Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Conley; her daughter, Janice Conley and two brothers, Joe Vernon Carroll and Charles Boonie Carroll. Faye was a devout Christian and was retired from Coyne Textile in Huntington, Wva.

She was a member of the Wilson Creek Missionary Baptist Church and the Wilson Creek Homemakers. Her survivors include: two sons, Tim (and Dena) Conley of Rush,  and Larry (and Debbie) Conley of Ashland,  

Grandchildren, Justin Conley, Heather Stevens and Angie Conley; Great-Granddaughter, Jordyn Stevens.

Funeral services were conducted July 9, at the Wilson Creek Missionary Baptist Church, with Joe Ed Rice and Jim Varney, officiating.

Burial was in the Cribbs Hill Cemetery.

 Paul Devin Kawada

1991 – 2010

GRAYSON – Paul Devin Kawada, 19, of Grayson, Died  July 9, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.

He was born April 1, 1991 in Ashland, Ky, a son of Paul K. and Alesia (Moore) Kawada.

He attended Dixie Park Freewill Baptist Church and was an avid Golfer, Football, Basketball, and Soccer Player, and planned on attending ACTC in Ashland this Fall.

Devin was a 2009 graduate of East Carter High School, where he was a standout on the Raider Basketball Team. In 2009 he was selected to the All 62nd District Tournament Team and the All Eastern Kentucky Conference Team. Also in 2009 he was voted by his teammates as “Best Playmaker.” Devin is also considered as one of the all time leading rebounders at East Carter High School.

In addition to his parents he is survived by his Maternal Grandmother, Pauline Moore of Grayson; his Paternal Grandmother, Virginia Kawada of Ashland; and his Paternal Grandfather, Alan Barker of Grayson.

Funeral Services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wed, July 14,  at the Harold E. Holbrook East Complex Gym in Grayson.

Burial will follow in the East Carter Memory Gardens.

Patsy Tackett

1946 – 2010

GRAYSON –  Patsy Tackett, 64, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on July 6,  in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Ky.

She was born January 26, 1946 in Jackson, Ohio, a daughter of the late Pat and Irma Lambert, was brought to Christ by Ellis and Elizabeth Heaberlin.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Henry (Butch) Schmauch and a son, Donald Schmauch. Her survivors include: Her husband, Watt Tackett of Grayson; 0ne son, Robert (and wife Katie) Schmauch of Greenup, Ky, two daughters, Crystal Gale (and husband David) of Ocala, Fla, and Deidra Johnson of Ashland, Ky; two sisters, Margie Tiller of Roanoke, VA and Lois (Mario) Aries of Fayeville, N.C. Four brothers, Monte (and wife Nancy) Lambert of Montana, Dennis Lambert of Newark, Ohio, Jerry (and wife Wendy) Lambert of Montana and Danny (and wife Elaine) Lambert of Texas; eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted July 10, at Huffs Run Community Church which she attended by ministers Vernell Ingle and Danny Clarkston.

Burial was in the Heaberlin Cemetery.

Harmie Crey Rogers

1917 – 2010

GRAYSON –  Harmie Crey Rogers, 92, of Grayson,  went to be with his Lord and Savior, July 3, in Carter Nursing and Rehab Center in Grayson.

He was born Dec. 25, 1917 in Denton, a son of the late Hiram and Martha Mullins Rogers. He was retired from General Refractories in Hitchins, Ky.  

Preceding him in death was his first wife, Martha Emma Houck Rogers; four brothers, Grover, Homer, Clifton and Hubert Rogers; six sisters, Irene Watson, Madgel Rogers, Mary Waugh, Mayve Cooksey, Lorene Bellew and Delphia Black. His survivors include: his wife, Pat Ramey Rogers of Grayson; three daughters, Linda and husband Leo Thomas of Aberdeen, Ohio, Freda and husband Vernon Vincent of Lakeland, Fla. and Kelly and husband Nelson Patterson of Carthage, N.C. two step-daughters, Rita Frisbee of Grayson and Diane Johnston of Branchland, Wva; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted July 7, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson by Joe Alley and Joe Baker, ministers.  

Burial was in East Carter County Memorial Gardens.
