OLIVE HILL– Lonnie Ray Skaggs, 70, of Olive Hill, beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather, went to be with our Lord on May 30, at the Skaggs Cemetery in Elliott County, Ky, while decorating his mother’s grave.
Born Nov. 18, 1939, in Elliott County, Lonnie was the son of Emmitt and Edith Simmons Skaggs and grew up exploring the hills and hollows around Caney Creek. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, William Humphrey Skaggs; two sisters, Audrey Cox and Pauline Cox; one half brother, Johnny Skaggs; and one half sister, Faye Wice.
He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Joyce Francis Blankenbeckler Skaggs, whom he married on April 25, 1959.
Even though Lonnie has gone on to a better place, he leaves a family legacy behind—his only son, Rickey Skaggs and wife Janice of Olive Hill, his three daughters, Bonita Parsons and husband Rocky of Sandy Hook, Patty Simmons and husband Jacky of Sandy Hook, and Tammy Boggs and husband Thomas of Olive Hill.
Lonnie will also live on through his grandchildren, Misty Skaggs, Eric Parsons, Jaclyn Simmons, Megan Boggs-Abner, Morgan Boggs, Aaron Boggs, and Garrett Simmons, and his brand-new great granddaughter, Abigail Richmond.
Other survivors include two brothers, Robert Skaggs of Carter City, Ky, and Charles Skaggs of Morehead, three half brothers, Jackie Skaggs and Jimmie Skaggs of Michigan and Benny Skaggs of Missouri; four sisters, Anna Pearl Oakley of Mansfield, Ohio, Myrtle Slusher of Red Bird, Kentucky, Hallie Hatfield of Hudson, Florida, and Mary Ellen Oakley of Carter City, Ky, four half sisters, Barbara Jean Mays of Sandy Hook, Kentucky, Arlene White of Morehead, Ky, Jannie Blevins of Lexington, Ky, and Susie Townsend of Michigan.
Lonnie walked a Christian path in the service of the Lord for 37 years.
Funeral services were conducted, June 2, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with Brother Ronnie Easterling and Brother Austin Carter officiating.
Burial followed in the Holbrook-Lemaster Cemetery on Beartown Ridge Road in Elliott County.
Pallbearers were Eric Parsons, Tony Blankenbeckler, Phillip Cox, Raymond Thornsberry, Mike Abner, and C. J. Skaggs. Honorary pallbearers were Garrett Simmons, Aaron Boggs, Bill Skaggs, and Darren Skaggs.

Marjorie Ellen Pemberton
Marjorie Ellen Pemberton,beloved mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother, went home to be with the Lord at 5:05 am on Monday, Sept. 26, 2011. She passed away at Kings Daughters Medical Center after a 12-day stay caused by congestive heart failure. She went peacefully, surrounded by family.
A pioneer missionary to Zimbabwe with husband John and faithful member of First Church of Christ in Grayson, she made friends, warmed hearts, ministered and brought joy with music. There was always a song in her heart.
Marjorie is survived by her, oldest son Sherman and Judi, their four children and two grandchildren, daughter Pam, her nine children and 21 grandchildren,daughter-in-law Leanna, her three children and three grandchildren anddaughter-in-law Nancy and three children and four grandchildren.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her; husband John Clifford, son John Mark, son-in-Law George Winston Markey and son Robert Lee. She is now home with them, enjoying their company at long last. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 28 at the First Church of Christ in Grayson with Phil LeMaster, minister. The family has requested no flowers and that memorial donations be made to Chiredzi Children’s Home & Village 132 W. Main Street, Grayson, KY 41143.
