The first organizational meeting of the Memory Days Committee resulted in a number of decisions for the May 2009 event.

The theme for the weeklong celebration will be, Hometown Roots Ð Strong and Growing, selected from among 55 entries. The writer chose to remain anonymous and that request will be honored.

Memory Days Coordinator Bob Caummisar said the theme will be on posters, brochures and tee shirts and speaks to the pride of Grayson people in their past and the optimism they feel for the future.

The committee unanimously selected a grand marshal for the annual parade this year to be held on May 23, 1 p.m. The man being honored is the recently retired Colonel Ralph Newman, who headed up the East Carter High Junior ROTC for many years.

Upon accepting the position Colonel Newman said he was Ògreatly honoredÓ to be the grand marshal.

In other actions the committee announced the annual logo contest winner of which will receive $25, a tee shirt containing the logo and recognition at the May 21st opening ceremonies. The logo needs be on eight-inch by eight-inch white material in black using any media. The work must be original work of the artist and may not be computer generated. Deadline for the entries is Monday, March 2, 12 noon and entries must be delivered to office of Robert L. Caummisar, 301 West Main Street, Grayson, KY in person or by mail or fax. Color, which will be used on the logo selected, will be, as always red, white and blue.

The committee asked that event sponsors notify Caummisar of time, date and nature of their event and any other particulars including cost, if any, to participate. Already in the lineup are anchor events of the Chamber parade, Art in the Park and a walking horse show.
