Nov. 20, 2013 — The Kentucky Christian University Volleyball season ended this past week at the NCCAA-II tournament.
On Friday, the Lady Knights lost both of their pool play matches. In the morning, they fell to Ozark Christian College of Joplin, MO, 2-3. This loss required that KCU would have to beat the highest seeded team in their bracket, Manhattan Christian College of Manhattan, Kansas. But Manhattan did not allow that, defeating the Lady Knights in straight sets.
Manhattan advanced as the Pool A #1, to take on defending champion Clearwater Christian College. Clearwater would defeat Manhattan and to advance to the National Championship Lincoln Christian University defeated Ozark Christian. Clearwater would then defeat Ozark to win the National Championship with a 3-1 victory.
Last Wednesday, Three Lady Knights were recognized for their efforts on the court as they were named to the NCCAA/American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Squads. Lauren Dunn, junior setter, from Lucasville, OH, is a two-time selection to this team. Magen Daniel, junior middle hitter, from Paintsville, was a Second Team All-America last season. Junior Middle Hitter Jenna Kelley was selected to the Second Team
Also, Last Wednesday evening at the National Christian College Athletic Association, Division II Volleyball National Championship Tournament banquet, Kentucky Christian University Head Volleyball coach Bruce Dixon was named as the Coach of the Year for 2013.
"Maybe it was the fact that our team had received the No. 1 seed going into the tournament, or maybe it was because our players earned the 400th win of my career this year, or maybe it was simply because this was my 23rd year of coaching. But for whatever reason, to receive an award like this when it is voted you by your peers is a great honor".
Just days before, Coach Dixon received the plaque for the Mid-East Region Coach of the Year in the NCCAA-II. He has been the Region Coach of the Year on numerous occasions, and was the National Coach of the Year once previously, in 1994.
"This is really a team award. If the team had not had a great season, why would anyone think that I had done a good job?"
