Moore to coach East All-Star team

Jan. 8, 2014 — It is not every day that coaches in the state of Kentucky get to walk the sidelines for a little pigskin in June.

East Carter head football coach Zack Moore will be one of them when he coaches the East squad in the Northeastern Kentucky senior bowl that will be held at Morehead State University.

He got a phone call a few weeks ago from officials with the exhibition and was eager to accept the role of coaching some of the area’s top outgoing seniors.

“It’s going to be a fun week,” Moore said. “Anytime you can get some football in June is always fun, especially when you get to coach some guys that typically give us headaches and trying to figure out how to stop them. Now we get to prepare with them.”

Players from the northeastern part of the state will participate in the event stretching from Greenup County to Clark County and everywhere in between.

While most seniors at that time of year will know where they are going to college, some might have the chance to showcase their talents in front of some lower level colleges to play football at the next level.

“Some opportunities might pop up for some guys late if they can benefit from this game with a college choice. It would be an added bonus,” Moore said.

Moore, who will be entering his fourth season as the head coach of the Raiders, cracked a smile when asked about preparing with some of the other schools' players rather than finding a way to stop them on Friday nights.

“It’s not going to bother me and we’re going to have fun with it,” Moore said. “It’s going to be a different experience but that’s why I agreed to do this. It will also show some other guys how we run practice and how our guys prepare for this game.”
