Raiders fall to No. 10 Lawrence County

Sept. 25, 2013 —

East Carter’s football team made a trip to Louisa to face off with the Lawrence County Bulldogs, a team that has surprised most people in the state with their 3-1 record.

The Bulldogs used a powerful running attack to defeat the Raiders 66-33.

Head Coach Zack Moore said Lawrence gave his team trouble on defense.

“We didn’t execute really well on defense at all and a lot of that has to do with them,” Moore said. “I give them a lot of credit. Our effort is always there but sometimes our execution is lacking.”

While Lawrence was able to run the ball effectively against East, Moore wanted to see more consistency on the defensive side of the ball.

“We didn’t tackle very well,” Moore said. “We didn’t improve defensively Friday and that’s a true to test to see how much you have improved against upper echelon teams. We’ve got some work to do.”

One bright spot for the Raiders was their own ground attack. East Carter rushed for 296 yards, led by Jordan Ratcliff’s 116 yards and one score.

“I wasn’t happy with what we did offensively but we’re putting points on the board,” Moore said. “We had a big play on special teams but we gave up a big play in that area too. It’s a work on progress.”

Lawrence quarterback A.J. Cyrus made more outstanding plays Friday night but Moore was more concerned with the way their other running backs ran all over his defense.

“They didn’t hurt us as much with the triple option as much as they did with some other plays. But that’s a part of it. It was our failure to fit up against those different run plays that played a big part in our demise.”
