Bates' Crazy 8

By MacKenzie Bates - Sports Editor

Oct. 23, 2013 — 1. Mason County (8-0)

2. Raceland (6-2)

3. Fairview (7-1)

4. Ashland (7-2)

5. Russell (5-3)

6. Lawrence County (6-3)

7. Lewis County (5-3)

8. Morgan County (4-4)

I will brag a little bit. How about the Raceland Rams? A fellow alum of the small school in Greenup County can smile as the Rams knocked off a Fairview that had not lost a regular season game since Oct. 22, 2010. Raceland defeated Fairview 36-14 by winning the turnover war and some timely special teams plays. Hats off to the Orange and Black.

Mason County takes over as the new No. 1 in the Crazy 8 after wrapping up the Class 3A District 6 title with a 42-0 win over West Carter. Ashland, who defeated Greenup County 35-6 will face off with Johnson Central for the Class 4A District 8 title this Friday. Russell had no trouble with Lewis County 44-8. All other teams were out of the coverage area last Friday.

The high school playoffs are just two weeks away everybody. Let’s have some fun.
