“The effort was there especially on the defensive end,” Lady Comets coach Bart Stevens said. “The scoring will come as we get in to the season. I was able to sub out a bunch of girls and that gave us a good lift. I was satisfied with their performance.”
In the nightcap, the host West Carter Comets welcomed in Southern Ohio powerhouse, Georgetown to Olive Hill. The G-Men used their athleticism to their advantage to defeat West 76-49. The Comets were led in scoring on Jacob Layne’s 16 points. Dalton Spurlock added seven points.
Coach Jeremy Webb said despite the loss, he was happy with the way his team played against a tough opponent.
“We saw some things out there that we need to grow and work on,” Webb said. “But they exposed some weaknesses that everyone has at this time of year but we’ll work on it and get better. I told our guys that I don’t care about the result of scrimmages. It’s all about getting better.”
Webb was pleased with the entire day, saying the Jack Fultz Classic went off without a hitch.
“It was a very good day of basketball,” Webb said. “We had a good turnout and appreciate the sponsors and each communities coming out to support their teams.”
