East softball defeats Raceland

May 15, 2013 —     The East Carter softball team is showing signs of getting out of their midseason slump as they defeated Raceland 10-5 this past Thursday.  

    The Lady Raiders poured out 15 hits on the road against one of the surprise teams in the 16th Region this season.  

    Senior Heather Withrow went 3-for-5 with four RBI and Jordyn Wiler smacked a two-run homerun and getting another hit with two RBI. Seventh grader Eden Mayo went 3-for-5 at the plate and Tori Qualls was a perfect 3-for-3.

    The Lady Raiders will host Lewis County on Wednesday for senior day as Coach Derek Calhoun and the rest of the team will honor its lone senior in Withrow. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

    The Lady Raiders will also host Greenup County on Thursday before finishing out the season on Friday at Rowan County in a makeup game. They will take on Morgan County in the first round of the 62nd District Tournament on Monday.

    The 11-12-year-old Morehead All-Stars were not used to playing from behind. Down two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, they hit four straight singles to pull ahead for good as they defeated the Olive Hill All-Stars 9-7 to claim the Area 1 District 6 Championship.
