Kentucky Diamonds eighth grade win KY division 1 AAU state title

May 1, 2013 — The Kentucky Diamonds girl's eighth grade basketball team won the division one state tournament in Lexington.

The girls made it clear from the first game April 22, in pool play on Saturday they meant business by crushing the Shinning Stars out of Lexington by 21 points with a score of 87-66. They didn't slow down in their second game, disposing of the Western Kentucky Warriors out of Owensboro, 58-42. The two wins in pool play gave the girls a first round bye in Sunday's tournament.

They wasted no time putting away the Legacy Girls from Northern Kentucky 47-36 pushing them into the championship game against the Louisville Lady Jaguars.

At the end of the first quarter, the Diamonds were up 16-14 and looking like they were going to be in a battle for the title but that was the closest the Jaguars would get.

The girls pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back winning the game by a margin of 23 points 68-45.

By winning the state tournament the Diamonds will be the 15th overall seed in the national tournament in Orlando, Fla., July 8-13 held at Disney's ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

The next action the girls will see will be May 3-5 in Jefferson City in the Tennessee Miracle Classic.
