Adams signs to play volleyball at KCU

Feb. 20, 2013 — The Rowan County volleyball program has seen its share of stars move on to the college level and now they can add one more to that list.

Senior outside hitter Shelby Adams will play college volleyball at Kentucky Christian University after signing her letter of intent last Tuesday at a ceremony at Rowan County Senior High School.

“I’m very excited,” Adams said. “I’ve always wanted to play in college but it’s even more amazing that it’s a Christian school and I get to further my Christian beliefs.”

Adams visited with the Lady Knights volleyball team and practiced with them during that time. From then on she called it the perfect fit for her.

“Everyone was so friendly and took me in as if I already was on the team and treated me like I was,” Adams said. “I attended a chapel while I was there and everything felt right about the college and I get to play volleyball so it couldn’t be any better.”

Rowan County volleyball coach Steve Walters admitted during Adams' ceremony that she will be tough to replace but feels very proud that one of his Valkyries will be continuing her education and her playing career.

“I think it’s a fantastic fit for Shelby,” Walters said. “She can adapt to any role they put her in. She’s been a defensive player for me when she started out and then evolved in to one of the better hitters for me. She has the ability to do anything the coaching staff will need her to do.”

Adams hopes to come in this fall and play on the court with her new team very soon.

“I’m going to be fighting for a spot on the court,” Adams said. “It’s exciting that I’ve signed but I’ve still got a whole lot of work ahead of me.”

Adams joins her fellow Rowan County teammate Taylor Conn, who also signed to play for the Lady Knights a few weeks ago.
