The East Carter Raiders won their fourth game in the past five tries, defeating South Point, Ohio, 53-45 in Grayson on Friday night.
The Raiders (9-10) were led in scoring by senior guard Quinn Huddle, who scored 14 points. Junior Bradley Marsh had 12 points. Jordan Burchett had eight points, Connor Green contributed with seven, Cole Brammer and Trenton Welsh each had six to round out the scoring for East.
Raiders Coach Brandon Baker is happy with the way his team played, especially in the second half.
“Overall, we played well,” Baker said. “We got control of the game in the third and held on in the fourth quarter.”
Baker said his team is starting to get more comfortable in game situations but knows they have a long way to go before the district
tournament begins next month.
“The execution still isn’t what it needs to be but it’s getting there,” Baker said. “Our energy level was a lot better and I think the urgency hits closer a little more and our guys are responding better.”
Against the Pointers, the Raiders were able to distribute the ball around to the players on the floor and that opened up several shots.
“We got into the offense quicker and that allows us to get ball and player movement,” Baker said.
Baker said it all starts by being closer as a team and trusting each other.
“We've shown at times we can be good but it comes down to believing what you can do as a team,” Baker said. “We just need to continue momentum and believing in ourselves and that brings up our confidence.”
The Raiders were back on the road Tuesday night against the Ashland Tomcats. They will return home to Grayson on Friday when they host the West Carter Comets in 62nd District action.
