Dec. 18, 2013 — Boys

1. Fleming County (4-2)

2. Ashland (3-1)

3. Rowan County (3-2)

4. Lewis County (3-2)

5. Morgan County (3-2)

6. Boyd County (2-3)

7. Elliott County (4-1)

8. Raceland (2-1)

After watching the EKC Tournament last week, it was not too hard to see which team is the best in the region right now.

Fleming County, believe it or not, is better than they were last year. And one of their best players could be back in time for the postseason.

The Panthers won the tournament after squeaking by No. 3 Rowan County and No. 5 Morgan County in the championship. Could we see another five-game series with the Panthers and Vikings?

There are not very many big matchups this week involving the Crazy 8 as this is the last week before Christmas break. Holiday tournaments are set to begin the following week.

Girls

1. East Carter (6-0)

2. Ashland (3-1)

3. Bath County (5-0)

4. Fleming County (5-2)

5. Boyd County (4-2)

6. Lewis County (2-3)

7. Russell (6-1)

8. Greenup County (3-1)

There is no change in the top three on the girl’s side. East Carter continues its early season run after winning the EKC Tournament over now No. 4 Fleming County and defeating Scott County 79-59 in the Capitol City Rumble.

Junior Megan Stickler shined on the big stage, scoring 21 points, earning five steals, four rebounds and three assists. Maybe I did not give the Lady Panthers much credit at the start of the year, opening at 5-2. We will find out how good they are this week when they play No. 5 Russell this week.

The Lady Lions are hanging on to the No. 7 spot by a thread. They, too, play Ashland this week. Could it be a statement win? Or will they make room for a 3-3 Menifee County team or a 3-2 Raceland squad?
