Bates' Crazy 8

By MacKenzie Bates - Sports Editor

May 8, 2013 — Baseball:

1. Ashland (17-8)

2. Lewis County (21-8)

3. Boyd County (17-11)

4. Bath County (16-7)

5. Greenup County (16-9)

6. Russell (13-12)

7. Rowan County (13-14)

8. Morgan County (13-7)

If you have not been paying close attention, the Rowan County Vikings are surging right now.

Winners of 11 out of their past 13 games going into Monday’s games, including wins over Greenup, Bath and Morgan County, Coach Jason Davis’ ball club is feeling like his team is playing its best baseball right now. With its district win over Bath County on Friday, Rowan still has a chance to earn the No. 1 seed in the 61st District Tournament in two weeks.

1. Ashland (18-7)

2. Boyd County (19-9)

3. Rowan County (20-11)

4. Raceland (16-10)

5. Fairview (15-11)

6. Greenup County (13-13)

7. West Carter (9-11)

8. East Carter (18-7)

Ashland and Boyd County have been ranked at the top for several weeks now, but Rowan County is not backing down at all, winning its 20th game of the season, which leads the 16th Region.

All three have a legitimate chance to win the region and play at the state tournament.

Ashland and Rowan square off this Friday night, which will likely have the No. 1 spot in the rankings up for grabs. Fairview jumps all the way to No. 5 this week, as the Lady Eagles have won nine of their last 11 contests.
