Oct. 16, 2013 — East Carter volleyball goes 2-1 at Belfry Bash

The East Carter volleyball team used a strong attack on the road as they traveled to Pike County to compete in the Belfry Bash. The Lady Raiders defeated Rose Hill 2-0 (25-4, 25-10) and Sheldon Clark 2-0 (25-11, 25-11). They fell to the host, Lady Pirates 2-0 (13-25, 14-25).

The wins improved the Lady Raiders to 13-11 on the season. They hosted Rowan County Tuesday night for senior night. They will travel to Greenup County on Saturday before beginning play at the 62nd District Championship at Morgan County next Tuesday.

West Carter volleyball has tough showing at Lawrence

The West Carter volleyball team made the long trek to Louisa Monday night to face Lawrence County. The Lady Comets hung tough but ultimately fell to the Lady Bulldogs 3-1 (25-20, 18-25, 25-17, 25-11). The loss brings West Carter’s record to 9-20 on the season.

The Lady Comets participated in senior night on Tuesday when they hosted Bath County. That is the final regular season game for West. They will play Morgan County next Monday in the 62nd District tournament.

West Carter boys soccer defeats Rose Hill

West Carter’s boys soccer team finished the regular season on a high note as they defeated Rose Hill 4-1 this past Tuesday in Olive Hill.

The Comets’ Tyler Glover scored two goals while Troy Brickles and Cody James each had one goal. Brickles and Daniel Dehart each had one assist in the win.

The victory improves West Carter’s record to 9-9-1 in the first year of a new coaching staff. The Comets participated in the 62nd District tournament Tuesday night when they traveled to face the host of the event, Greenup County. The Comets defeated the Musketeers 4-2 back on Sept. 10. If West wins they are set to play East Carter in the 62nd District Championship on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

    The 11-12-year-old Morehead All-Stars were not used to playing from behind. Down two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, they hit four straight singles to pull ahead for good as they defeated the Olive Hill All-Stars 9-7 to claim the Area 1 District 6 Championship.
