“We’d get something and then turn it over but we’d have penalties that hurt us. Been a nemesis all year for us,” Brown said. “We played well on first and second downs but give up big plays on third down and they scored two touchdowns on fourth down.”
West Carter had trouble moving the ball against a Royal defense that gives up less than 12 points a game. Junior Austin Travis was West’s leading rusher with eight carries and 28 yards.
“We can’t have that,” Brown said. “To their credit they executed their game plan. We need to eliminate penalties. Our effort has been there all year but we just haven’t played very smart.”
The Comets will have their final home game of the 2013 season this Friday night when they host 5-3 Lewis County.
“We’ve got to play these next few weeks to get better,” Brown said. “We have big games with Lewis County and Paintsville and both are conference games. We still have a lot to play for.”
