Bates' Crazy 8

By MacKenzie Bates - Sports Editor

May 22, 2013 — Baseball:

1.  Lewis County (27-9)

2.  Ashland (22-9)

3.  Greenup County (21-12)

4.  Boyd County (19-15)

5.  Bath County (19-9)

6.  Rowan County (18-16)

7.  Russell (18-15)

8.  East Carter (16-16)

The time for talk is over. Everything must be fine-tuned for every team inside the 16th Region as district tournaments began Monday.

Lewis County, in my opinion of course, is the prohibitive favorite to win the 16th Region and dethrone Ashland. But with that being said, any team can win this. Greenup is playing well. East Carter has the pitching. Rowan County is one of the hottest teams right now. It’s now up to them to see where they end up.

1.  Ashland (21-9)

2.  Boyd County (24-10)

3.  East Carter (23-11)

4.  Fairview (17-14)

5.  Greenup County (18-16)

6.  Russell (14-14)

7.  Rowan County (20-15)

8.  Raceland (18-15)

I believe no one was more ready to get past last week than Rowan County Softball Coach Larry Slone. His squad dropped four contests last week to Boyd, Montgomery, Russell and East Carter to limp into the 61st District tournament on Monday. I am sure the Lady Vikings will come ready to bounce back in the postseason. Ashland and Boyd County held onto the top spot but East is surging after winning five straight games. The 16th Region is WIDE open. Have fun and good luck, everybody.
