Carper to play soccer at KCU

Aug. 14, 2013 — Throughout student-athlete’s lives, they always dream and picture themselves playing at the next level.

For East Carter’s Tucker Carper, that dream almost did not become a reality.

He decided after high school he would further his education at Morehead State University. But up until last week, Carper had a change of heart. He still wanted to play the game of soccer. Since MSU did not have a men’s soccer program, he turned to his home university and decided to attend Kentucky Christian University.

“It was a late decision but it decided itself,” Carper said. “When I wanted to go to Morehead, I was set up financially and I had a full ride to go there. But when I started talking to the guys here at KCU, they found me a scholarship to play here so it really was a no-brainer.”

Carper has loved the game of soccer since he got into high school. He will be a sports management major while also learning to become a youth minster. And while he originally wanted to go to MSU to be with some of his former classmates, his passion for the game and his commitment to his faith and family ultimately won out.

“My dad is a big influence on my life,” Carper said. “Both of my parents wanted me to come here and when I talked to them about it, they were all for it. I have a lot of friends going to MSU but I have friends here, too.”

In his senior season with the Raiders, he helped guide East to a 10-5-2 record, winning the 62nd District Championship. Now he becomes a Knight in search of bringing a title to Grayson.

“I want to get to be where I can be helpful to the team,” Carper said. “Whether that’s being a role player or whatever Coach (Jeremy Miller) wants me to be, I’ll do it. Because our number one goal is to win a championship. We just have to work hard and play well and I think we’ll raise a banner here.”
