East Carter’s boys soccer program had a lot to be proud of after Monday's opening round games of the 62nd District Tournament.
Following the Lady Raiders’ 10-0 victory against Elliott County, the boys picked up where their female counterparts had left off, ending the match with 10-0 mercy in Grayson in front of the home crowd.
Right from the start, East Carter hit the attack hard, ending the first half up 7-0. The brisk air seemed to invigorate the Raiders as they took every opportunity to strike on goal.
This match would come to an end even earlier than the girls’ game did, as the Raiders dominated the overmatched Lions, leaving 26 minutes unplayed on the board.
It was a night of offensive excellence for the Raiders with goal scorers for East Carter including Tucker Carper with a hat trick plus another goal to tally four, Kerrick Burchett with one goal, Elijah Green with one, Quinn Huddle with two, and Ryan Walker with two.
Walker, Huddle and Carper each had two assists as well.
East Carter Head Coach Ben Fritz was pleased with the team’s effort.
“We’ve had a few games cancelled on us recently so just getting out there with the team is good for us,” Fritz said. “We got to play and work together as a team, and we are really coming together in time for this tournament.”
Both the Raider soccer teams will play in the district finals this coming Saturday against the winners of Tuesday’s matches of West Carter vs. Greenup County.
Journal-Times sports will have a complete wrap-up of both the district finals games in next week’s edition.
