East tennis sweeps Raceland


April 16, 2014 — The East Carter tennis teams went on the road to face Raceland on Friday.

The girls team defeated the Lady Rams 5-4 while the Raiders had no problem with Raceland’s boys 6-1.

In the girls singles matches, Amber Hall defeated Caleigh O’Neal 8-5, Emily Porter blanked Madison Wilburn 6-0. Makenzie Hayes beat Josie Hutchinson 6-0. Madison Prater fell to Megan Farley 6-3, Aliya Lewis was beaten by Elizabeth Pennington 6-1 and Kaitlyn Conley lost to Kimberly Moore 6-0.

In their doubles matches, The duo of Hall and Hayes beat Raceland’s O’Neal and Wilburn 8-3. Porter and Lewis held on to defeat Farley and Pennington 6-3. East’s tandem of Prater and Sarah Hall came up short against Raceland’s Hanna Floyd and Josie Hutchinson 6-4.

In the boys singles matches, Jonathan Seagraves defeated Bryce Keeton 8-3, Marcus Harris had no trouble with Nathan Chaney, winning 6-1. Mason Tomaselli defeated Carl Quade 6-2 and Carter Waugh blanked Austin Baldridge 6-0. East Tanner Sammons dropped a 7-6 (5) decision to Raceland’s Luke Porter.

The Raiders swept the two doubles matches with Raceland. Seagraves and Sammons knocked off Chaney and Porter 8-6 while Zach Kiser and Josh Porter beat Keeton and Quade 6-2.
