Bates' Crazy Eight

By MacKenzie Bates - Sports Editor

Feb. 13, 2013 — Boys:

1. Fleming County (21-6)

2. Ashland (19-8)

3. Russell (22-7)

4. Morgan County (18-6)

5. Boyd County (17-10)

6. Lewis County (13-12)

7. Rowan County (15-12)

8. Elliott County (12-13)

Fleming County takes over the top spot despite losing to Russell last week. The Red Devils lost to West Carter, but they were without leading scorer Kyle Skaggs to an injury. The Ashland Tomcats seemed to have figured it out. Coach Buddy Biggs and company lost five games in January and since the 22nd, they have won seven straight. With two games this week, (including one at Russell) they look to be one of the hottest teams going into the postseason. Rowan County makes a drop after losing three of four games, but still remain in the mix going into the last week.

1. East Carter (22-5)

2. Ashland (19-6)

3. Boyd County (12-7)

4. Lewis County (14-11)

5. Bath County (14-10)

6. Menifee County (13-10)

7. Fleming County (14-10)

8. Rowan County (14-12)

East Carter continues to roll in the calendar year, losing just one game out of the region to Montgomery County back on Jan. 5, a span of 12 games. They look to be one of, if not the, favorite to win the 16th Region. Ashland climbs just one spot, setting up a 1 vs. 2 showdown next Saturday at Ashland. Lewis County moves up a few spots, winning three games last week and nine of 11 contests overall.
