East tennis sweeps Rowan

March 26, 2014 — The East Carter boys and girls tennis teams hosted Rowan County this past Friday at East Carter Middle School. The boys defeated the Vikings 6-3 while the Lady Raiders blew past Rowan 6-2.

In the girls singles, Amber Hall beat Alison Towell 6-0, Emily Porter defeated Maggie Quisenberry 6-0, Makenzie Hayes moved past Kara Lewis 6-3 and Sarah Hall rallied to defeated Jessica Johnson 7-5 after trailing 2-4. Elyssa McDavid fell short against Baylie Sloan 6-2 and Aliya Lewis lost to Sarah Elam 7-6 (7-2).

In the girls doubles, Emily Porter and Makenzie Hayes blanked Kara Lewis and Alison Towell 6-0. Amber Hall and Sarah Hall tied Jessica Johnson and Maggie Quisinberry 6-6 (4-4) when darkness forced an end to the match. Aliya Lewis and Kaitlyn Conley lost to

Sarah Elam and Baylie Sloan 6-3.

On the boys side, Jonathan Seagraves beat Ben Wymer 6-0, Zach Kiser trounced Braiden Thacker 6-0, Marcus Harris beat Kevin Hignite 6-2 and Josh Porter shut out Jacob Sergent 6-0. Rowan’s Jacob Barber rallied to defeat Mason Tomaselli 7-6 (7-4) and Carter Waugh lost to Zack Highley 6-3.

In doubles, Jonathan Seagraves and Marcus Harris beat Braiden Thacker and Jacob Barber 6-1 and Zach Kiser and Josh Porter beat Kevin Hignite and Kyle Barnhart 6-3. Rowan’s tandem of Wymer and Max Elam defeated Noah Sammons and Logan Moore 6-2.

The Raiders improved their record to 2-3 on the year while the girls are now 4-1 on the season.
