When you combine Reynolds and Berry with three-year staring guard Brooke Adkins, Stevens and the rest of his team believe they have a recipe for success.
“We’re good at passing and we’ll be a quick team,” Adkins said. “We were kind of slow last year but I think we’re going to be a lot faster this year. We’re not as big, but we’ll be able to run with a lot of teams this season.”
The Lady Comets were 12-18 in Stevens’ first year. They won the 16th Region All “A” Championship and secured a spot in the 16th Region Tournament.
Stevens wants to take the next step.
“We need to improve on what we accomplished last year,” Stevens said. “We want to defend our All “A” Championship and make it to the Regional Tournament again and win a game or two.”
In order to keep building off of the foundation they built a year ago, The Lady Comets want to be a better rebounding team.
Stevens said rebounding is all about putting your body between someone and the ball which at times, they failed to do.
“Offensively, we’ll be pretty good,” Stevens said. “Defense is still a work in progress. We’re going to have to be a better rebounding team. We don’t have a true post player but we’ve got what I consider to be five really good athletes out there.
“Defensively, these girls know what to do but they have to take some pride in it,” Stevens said. “We’ll just have to see what happens.”
West Carter will begin its season on Dec. 3 when they travel to Raceland.
