Bates' Crazy 8

By MacKenzie Bates - Sports Editor

Jan. 23, 2013 — My, oh my, what a difference a week makes. We have several changes in both the boys and the girls Crazy 8 rankings this week including a new No. 1 on the girls side of things.

1. Russell (18-4)

2. Fleming County (15-2)

3. Morgan County (14-5)

4. Rowan County (12-8)

5. Boyd County (13-9)

6. Ashland (12-8)

7. Elliott County (10-10)

8. Lewis County (10-8)

The Red Devils take the top spot once again, after winning the 16th Region All “A” Classic for the first time in school history. They move on to Frankfort with a legitimate shot to win it all. Ashland takes another dive after falling big to rival Boyd County on Friday. Rowan County jumps back up one spot after a win over Clark County and a seven point loss to Russell last Saturday.

1. East Carter (16-5)

2. Boyd County (14-6)

3. Ashland (14-4)

4. Lewis County (10-8)

5. Rowan County (11-8)

6. Bath County (10-7)

7. Greenup County (11-11)

8. West Carter (7-10)

We have a new top team in the Girl’s Crazy 8. East Carter has just one loss in the 16th Region in the last month and has won 11 of its past 12 contests after defeating Morgan County Monday night. The Raiders have wins over every team in the rankings except for Ashland, which also lost to Boyd County last Saturday. The new addition to the Crazy 8 rankings is West Carter. The 16th Region All “A” Champions had the toughest road to the Championship, winning four games in nine days to earn a trip to Frankfort.
