KCU football falls on Senior Day

Nov. 20, 2013 — Senior Day ceremonies are always a time of remembrance and a time of honoring the hard work that goes into a successful sports career.

This past Saturday in Grayson, prior to the game with Faulkner University, Coach Gene Peterson honored eight seniors and their careers at KCU.

The Eagles of Faulkner University wasted no time setting the pace, scoring on their opening drive on a 20 yard pass to cap a nine-play, 74 yard drive. Minutes later, after a punt by KCU's Like Eisnagle put them inside their own five-yard line, Faulkner scored again to go up 14-0 on a 98 yard pass play.

With 2:07 to go in the first quarter, KCU got on the board on a Cody Sabol-to-Marcus Hicks 44-yard pass into the end zone, set up by an Andrew Stewart interception to make it 14-7.

However, Faulkner would score again on their first play from scrimmage on a 75-yard pass. On the ensuing drive, KCU fumbled and Faulkner recovered, and scored once more. At the end of one quarter, the score was 28-7.

Faulkner was able to score only twice more, once in the second quarter, and once in the third. Late in the last period, KCU put another TD on the board when Cody Sabol connected with Trey Strunk on a 37-yard sideline route. The final score was Faulkner 42, KCU 14.

Faulkner made 28 first downs, while KCU put up only 11. The Eagles managed 677 yards, averaging 8.7 per play, while the Knights had 196 yards of total offense, averaging 3.5 per play.

The Knights were led defensively by Andrew Stewart with 11 tackles, James Hart with seven and Josh Cobb and Jabriel Siler with six caroms. Punter Luke Eisnagle had a day with seven punts and 300 yards, with a long of 60 yards. Sabol was 6-of-22, for 126 yards and three interceptions
