Walkoff hit sends Greenup past East Carter


March 27, 2013 — The East Carter Raider Baseball team looked like it was on its way to a big win over traditional power Greenup County.

After scoring six runs in the top of the seventh to a take a 9-5 lead over the Musketeers, Greenup countered with a rally of its own to defeat East 10-9 Saturday.

Greenup’s Will McCall produced the game-winning hit, a bases-clearing walk-off double to give East Carter its second loss of the season..

McCall went 3-for-5 to give Greenup County its third 16th Region win in three tries early in the season.

Zack Cathey provided the offense for East Carter, going 1-for-5 with Three RBI. Cody McDavid, Austin Wells, Connor Staton had an RBI in that contest. Jesse James led East Carter (2-2) with three hits.

East Carter also faltered against Cabell Midland, W.Va. 7-1 on Saturday.

The Raiders will be back in action Thursday when they meet rival West Carter in Grayson. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
