Tanya Bowens isn’t finished with basketball just yet.
The Kentucky Christian University graduate and Lawrence County product will suit up for the United States women’s team in the 36th annual William Jones Cup tournament in August.
According to a KCU press release, Bowens made the roster after being invited to a tryout.
Bowens and her USA teammates are scheduled to meet in Los Angeles on Aug. 16 before departing for Taiwan on Aug. 17. The tournament, which involved nine countries in 2013, runs from Aug. 20-24. Fox Sports will air the event.
Bowens will play alongside other players with professional and/or college experience. Will De La Cruz is the USA’s head coach.
Bowens became KCU’s all-time leading scorer this past season. The point guard finished with 2,402 career points to go along with 644 assists, 452 rebounds and 326 steals.
She earned NCCAA II National Player of the Year honors in back-to-back seasons (2013, 2014) and was a NCCAA first team All-American four times, a three-time NCCAA National All-Tournament Team selection and a NCCAA National Tournament MVP twice. She was the Mideast Region MVP four times.
