WCHS golfer named to All-Area Team

Dec. 18, 2013 — Kendra Adkins has been selected by area coaches to the All-Area Golf Team.

The vote was taken via email with ballots sent to the Ashland Daily Independent at the end of October with results being announced in November.

Adkins was the lone representative from West Carter High School this year, following up Kyle Brown’s selection from the boy's team last year.

Adkins has been playing competitive golf since her sixth grade year at West Carter Middle School where she was coached by Assistant Principal Bill Tackitt, Tex English and Derrick Kiser.

Now a sophomore at West Carter High School, Adkins is seeing some of her hard work and dedication pay off.

She has won numerous awards throughout her career and for the first time this year she played as the No. 1 seed on her team and competed week in and week out against the area's best lady golfers.

She was and individual winner at the EKC Tournament this year. Her greatest award to date in golf is being selected to the All-Area team. This year both head Coach Chuck Clark and Assistant Coach Steve Brown have seen tremendous growth in Adkins’ game.

“Her length off the tee and more consistent putting has been instrumental to Kendra’s game this season,” says Coach Clark. “She will be a force to reckon with in the next couple of years,” he continued.

Along with her coaches from the middle school and high school, Adkins has a lot of support at home as well. Her biggest fan comes in her younger sister Kenlee, who is always at matches and practices to root on her sister. Her parents, Kenny and Robin Adkins, are at every match and very involved in helping the golf program to be successful. She also has support of grandparents, friends and teammates. When Coach Clark announced the award to Adkins, she was speechless.

A perfect example for humility and hardwork, Kendra Adkins is proud to represent her friends, teammates, coaches, and school as a representative for the 2013 All-Area Girls Golf Team.
