From the sidelines

The school year kicks off tomorrow, and that means The Journal-Times Annual Fall Sports Spectacular is in the works! This year, we’ll be covering Football, Cheerleading, Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country, Golf and Band for East and West Carter, as well as Rowan County High Schools. As you can imagine, getting photos for all of these teams, plus rosters and schedules is quite a daunting task. This is where you can help make sure that all the teams receive equal coverage!

I have personally tried to make contact with every single coach for each school, and I have spoken to each Athletic Director. There are a select few groups that have been exceptionally helpful in helping make sure their team gets in the paper. Unfortunately, there are still many teams whose coaches have not returned my phone calls. I would hate to let down a team by not including them in the FSS. I know from my own personal experience that watching peers be featured in the media, while your own team is left out, is disappointing for these athletes.

So parents and players, please help me out by submitting team photos, rosters, and schedules! And please, feel free to remind your coaches that I am calling, emailing, and begging for their help. With nine sports teams in each of the three cities, three high schools, two colleges, and one single sports writer, I will need your help to ensure that each and every sport receives equal coverage by the Journal-Times!
