WGOH inks deal for KCU Football Radio Network

Grayson , KY – WGOH Radio and Kentucky Christian University have signed an exclusive agreement for radio broadcasts of KCU Knights Football for the 2008 season. WGOH-AM 1370 will serve as the flagship station for the KCU Football Network, a regional network of radio stations which will carry all KCU football games. The games will also air on the internet on wgohwugo.com.

Kentucky Christian, which will join the NAIA in 2008 and the Mid-South Conference in 2009, played a partial schedule of games in the 2007 season, featuring three junior varsity and three varsity games. The 2008 season will include ten varsity games, including home contests against the University of Virginia – Wise, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Pikeville College, Trinity Bible College, Faulkner University and Tri-State University. The Knights will play on the road at Bethany College, Georgetown College, Southern Virginia University, and Cumberland University.

KCU Athletic Director Rick Cooper stated: “I am thrilled about the opportunity to have KCU Football on the air with WGOH/WUGO. In particular, I am excited about WGOH-AM serving as the flagship home of KCU Football. Every Saturday afternoon in the fall, fans will know that they can tune in to WGOH and catch all the exciting action of KCU football. WGOH and WUGO have been loyal media outlets to the entire KCU athletic program. It is a natural fit for them to be the home of KCU Football.”

KCU Coach Dane Damron noted the importance of this agreement: “This is a great day in the development of our football program. Partnering with WGOH/WUGO gives us a great presence in our area and beyond with their internet capabilities. Go Radio’s commitment to sports is unparalleled, and this gives us visibility. Nobody does sports like WGOH/WUGO.”

The WGOH sports team will include Tim Carper doing play-by-play and Mic Marshall adding color commentary.

Carper serves as Sports Director at WGOH/WUGO. Tim played baseball for the KCU Knights from 1985-87. He served as Sports Information Director and public address announcer for East Carter High School from 1990-2000. Carper began his broadcasting career at WGOH/WUGO Radio in 2000 doing play-by-play for East and West Carter High school in football, basketball, baseball and girl’s softball. Tim has worked as a guest analyst on the Eagle Sports Network for Morehead State University in both football and basketball. Carper is also a play-by-play analyst for the KHSAA Boys State Tournament on the School Boy Radio Network.

Marshall will serve as the network coordinator. Mic began his broadcasting career at WGOH in 1976 at the age of 15, and has worked at radio stations WMKY, WOKT, WTCR, WVHU, WIRO, WBKS, and WLGC. Marshall also served as station manager at WKCC on the Kentucky Christian campus from 1988 to 1994, and broadcast Knights basketball games while on the KCU staff. He is a 1982 KCU graduate, and is Director of Sales at WGOH/WUGO.

The first KCU Football game will air on WGOH on August 30th, 2008.
