Lady Comets beat Menifee, 68-52

By Leeann Tanner - Staff Writer

The Lady Comets took a win on the road Thursday over Menifee County, 68-52.

“We did really good on defense,” Coach Tex English said. “Lou Reynolds did well on offense with three steals and six assists and Kristin Perry shot the ball well.”

Perry led the Lady Comets with a double-double 24 points and 11 rebounds. Brittany Tackett put up 19 and Brittany Oney sank six. Reynolds had five while Paige Tackett and Shelby Fults put up four each. Brooke Callihan had three, Whitley Adkins grabbed one from the field and Ashley Owens sank one from the charity stripe.

Overall, West’s gals nailed 40-percent from the field and went 5-for-11 from the perimeter. They hit 55-percent from the line.

“I am pretty pleased with our effort,” English said. “We finally got a couple more players into scoring positions. I think we are getting better each game we play. Now if we can just get to play them.”

West was forced to cancel two weekend games due to snow. At press time, none had been rescheduled.

On Tuesday, the Lady Comets traveled to Russell (after press time) for their second match up of the season. The Lady Red Devils knocked West out of the All “A” Classic two weeks ago, 63-62 in overtime.

“We know more about them now,” English said. “We are ready to limit touches from the Parsley girl. Hopefully we can knock down some of her points and execute our offense better.”

West returns to their home court Thursday for a match up with Morgan County. The Lady Cougars fell to West in the EKC Tournament, 57-47. Another win will put the Lady Comets in the number two seed for the District tournament.

“We need to play our game,” English said. “They will try and get up and down the floor. They’ll play zone defense, so we have to take care of the ball and look for the open person.”

The match up with Morgan is a girl-boy doubleheader that tips off at 6:30 p.m.

West plays host to 3-13 Buckhorn on Friday. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
