William McKinley Gilliam


VANCEBURG - Mr. William McKinley Gilliam, age 90, of Salt Lick Road, Vanceburg, passed away Wednesday evening, August 6, at the residence of his daughter.

Mr. Gilliam was born August 11, 1917 in Lewis County, a son of the late John and Georgia Ann Adams Gilliam.

William was a loving father, grandfather, neighbor, and a friend to all who knew him. He worked as a sawmill operator and logger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Irene Rose Gilliam; a son, Harold Gilliam and a daughter, Carol Gilliam; two brothers, Estill Gilliam and Stanley Ray Gilliam; six sisters, Elizabeth Gilliam, Florie Bond, Corey Stevens, Nannie Zornes, Florene Gilliam and Mary Rose; two grandchildren, Serena Gilliam and Sara Dawn Cushard; a one infant granddaughter.

He is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law, Earnest and Rachel Gilliam of Olive Hill; Charles and Shari Gilliam of Orlando, Florida, Herman and Linda Gilliam of Laurel, Indiana, Donnie and Diane Gilliam, Fred and Ramona Gilliam and Michael Gilliam all of Vanceburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jack Cushard, Betty and Jessie Cushard of Vanceburg, and Wilma and Dan Cline of Sevierville, Tennessee; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He also leaves other family members, neighbors, and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Delmar Logan, Jr. and Brother Eugene Rayburn officiating. Burial followed in the Gilliam Family Cemetery in Lewis County.

Donnie Cline, Ernie Gilliam, Charlie Gilliam, Randy Gilliam, George Cushard, Darrin Cushard, and John Gilliam served as pallbearers.

CARTER CITY – Mrs. Goldia Riley Stevens, age 93, of 63 Swan Lane, Carter City, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 5, at the residence of her daughter.
