Avery Wilson Jr.
1928-2008
ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO - Avery Wilson Jr., age 79, of Roswell, New Mexico, formerly of Ashland, passed away Sunday morning, October 5, at the Casa Maria Nursing Home in Roswell, New Mexico.
He was born October 23, 1928, in Boyd County, a son of the late Avery Sr. and Jenny Ellison Wilson.
Avery, also known as "Bill" or "Uncle Jr." to his many nieces and nephews; served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force from 1947 to 1951. He loved music, playing banjo and writing songs with the Kentucky Travelers. Avery was a Christian and worked in numerous churches through out the community. In 1967, he moved his family to Farmington, New Mexico to begin what later became his livelong mission, which was to work in the Navajo Reservation, to bring the word of God to the Native Americans. His love and compassion for the Navajo and Zuni tribes lead him to build three churches, the Red Rock Church of God, the Valley View Church of God and the Pine Springs Church of God, which continues to spread the gospel today.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Carl David Wilson; two brothers, Woodrow Wilson and Ralph Wilson; twin sisters, Mearl Ferguson and Pearl Clark.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-two years, Esther Spence Wilson, two daughters and a son-in-law, Corrina Kay Wilson, Jennifer Ann and Michael W. Corn of Roswell, New Mexico; nine grandchildren, Jessica Corn, Jenny Dru Corn, Bronson Avery Corn and his wife Barbara all of Roswell, New Mexico, Carl David Wilson, Jr., Megan Wilson and Felisha Wilson all of Indiana, Mariah Ortiz and Tiffany Ortiz of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Travis Avery Wilson of California; five great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, John D. and Elanor Wilson of Knoxville, Tennessee; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine and Jim Dalton of Ashland, Marie and Ernest Jordan of Morehead.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 12, 2008, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother David Rayburn officiating. Burial will follow in the Bowen Chapel Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Saturday and until the service hour Sunday, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky.
Lane Cook, Dallas Wilson, Talmage Rayburn, Bronson Avery Corn, Michael W. Corn and Carl David Wilson, Jr. will serve as pallbearers.
Marvin Wayne “Bo” Logan
1962-2008
OLIVE HILL – Marvin Wayne “Bo” Logan, age 46, of Bauer Road in Olive Hill, passed away Monday morning, September 29, in Grayson from injuries sustained in a logging accident.
Mr. Logan was born August 6, 1962 in Lewis County, a son of the late Elwood Stevens and Ledvia Logan of Olive Hill.
Marvin was a loving husband, father, son, and brother and a friend to all who knew him. He was employed by Albert Butler Logging in Olive Hill.
Besides his mother, he is survived by his step-mother, Fay Stevens of Olive Hill; his wife of twenty-seven years, Margaret James Logan; four sons and companions, Matthew Logan and Cindi of Hitchins, Joshua Logan and Becca, Daniel Logan, Gage James all of Olive Hill, also Michael Knipp, who resides with him; one daughter, Nicole Logan Eden of Olive Hill; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Jr. and Donna Logan, James and Jeannie Logan, Billy and Kim Stevens all of Olive Hill; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Kathy and Rob Brown and Kitty Stevens of Olive Hill; Leann Clay of Wurtland; four grandchildren, Stacyona Eden, Jasmine Evans, Anthony Gray and Destiny Gray; he also leaves other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 2, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Matthew Blankenship and Brother Allen Underwood officiating. Burial followed in the Walnut Grove Cemetery on Walnut Grove Ridge in Olive Hill.
Billy Stevens, Mark Butler, Clyde Logan, Jr. Logan, Albert Butler, Bill McGlone, Jessie Skaggs and James Logan served as pallbearers.
Nadine Thompson Helderbrand
1922-2008
OLIVE HILL – Nadine Thompson Helderbrand, age 86, of Rose Ridge, Olive Hill, passed away Thursday morning, October 2, at the Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born September 6, 1922 in Carter County, a daughter of the late Fred and Idle Logan Thompson.
Nadine was a Christian, a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-five years, Luster Arnold Helderbrand; a son, Eugene Helderbrand; four brothers, Bill Thompson, Bernice Thompson, Glen Thompson and Fred “Junior” Thompson; a sister, Virginia Reeder.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Janice Helderbrand of Morehead; three daughters and sons-in-law, Marcella and Phillip Alexandra of Conroe, Texas, Hazel and Edd Branham and Esther and Keith Bays all of Olive Hill; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clyde Thompson of Winchester, Indiana and Hubert Thompson of Wilkison, Indiana; one sister, Justine Thompson of Shiloh, Ohio; a very special friend and caregiver, Cledith McCleese; she also leaves nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were held Sunday, October 5, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Gayle Price and Brother Lewis Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Logan Cemetery on Rose Ridge in Olive Hill.
Martin Branham, Jon Holbrook, Eric Cooper, Nick Reeder, Ray Thompson, Glen Allen Thompson, Phillip Thompson, and John Thompson served as pallbearers. Bill Roe served as honorary pallbearer.
Timothy Lee Pelfrey
1959-2008
SOLDIER – Timothy Lee Pelfrey, age 49, of Eagle Hall Cemetery Road, Soldier, passed away Tuesday morning, September 30, at the Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia, from injuries sustained in an ATV accident.
He was born May 24, 1959, in Carter County, a son of the late Pondes and Laura David Pelfrey.
Tim was an eighteen-year employee of Globe Hardware, where he worked as a laborer. He attended the Halderman Church of God.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Terry, Barbara Brickles and Mary Pelfrey.
He is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Mable Hamm Pelfrey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Liatha Arthurs of Olive Hill, and Willie Greenhill of Soldier; three granddaughters, who he raised, Alice Grace Arthurs, Mable Sue Arthurs and Angel Lynn Arthurs; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Fredia Pelfrey, Daniel “Dock” Pelfrey and Joseph Pelfrey all of Soldier; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Polley and Oshell Johnson, Marie Braden all of Soldier and April Pelfrey of Ohio; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Willie and Alice Hamm, whom he loved dearly; he also leaves several other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. October 3, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Don Rivers and Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial followed in the Pelfrey Family Cemetery on Eagle Hall Cemetery Road in Soldier.
Willie Greenhill, Bruce Jones, Billy Binion, Ben Hamm, Wesley Pelfrey and Carl Hamm served as pallbearers. Globe Hardware Employees served as Honorary Pallbearers.
Carolyn Sue Reynolds
1959-2008
ELLIOTT COUNTY - Carolyn Sue Reynolds, age 48, of Elliott County, Kentucky, was called home to be with the Lord Saturday morning, October 4, 2008, in the Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky.
Ms. Reynolds was born October 25, 1959, in Carter County, Kentucky, a daughter of Roscoe Reynolds of Elliott County, Kentucky and the late Angie Blankenship Reynolds.
Carolyn was a Christian and a member of the Providence Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to church and spending time with her loving family and many friends.
In addition to her father she is survived by three brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Regina Reynolds, John Reynolds and James Reynolds all of Olive Hill, Kentucky; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Diana and Danny Middleton of Olive Hill, Kentucky, Debbie and Charles Whitt, Ella and Larry Carter all of Sandy Hook, Kentucky; a very special uncle, Rupert Reynolds of Elliott County, Kentucky; two precious pets; "Tom and Fluffy." She also leaves behind special aunts, uncles, several nieces, nephews, other family members, neighbors and friends who will deeply miss her and sadly mourn her passing.
Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, Kentucky, with Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial will follow in the Binion Cemetery in Elliott County, Kentucky.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday and until the service hour Wednesday at the Globe Funeral Chapel.
Steven Whitt, Ronnie Whitt, Dallas Middleton, Jerry Middleton, Clede Middleton, Carlos Middleton, Glen David Creech and Steve DeHart will serve as pallbearers.
Rupert Reynolds, Cody Reynolds, and Matthew Reynolds will service as honorary pallbearers.
Bonnie G. Kegley
1935-2008
GALION – Bonnie G. Kegley, 73, of 9763 Ketterman Drive, died Saturday, September 6, at home after a short illness.
Bonnie was born in Grahn, on January 7, 1935 to the late Charles and the late Hazel (Williams) Rose.
She married Glen Kegley June 27, 1959, and he survives her. They moved to the Galion area in 1959.
She attended school in Grahn. She attended the Bucyrus Freewill Baptist Church.
Bonnie had worked at Westinghouse and Geauga Plastic, but her most important job was as a wife and mother. She was devoted to her family. Bonnie was outstanding in the kitchen. She was famous for her apple pie, biscuits and gravy and her blackberry cake. She enjoyed spending time playing bingo, her work with the Crawford County Humane Society, and watching her Dallas Cowboys.
She is survived by her two sons and daughter-in-law, Ron Kegley of Marion and Jack and Heidi Kegley of Mount Gilead; her granddaughter, Amber Kegley; her twin grandsons, Kyle and Tyler Kegley; her great-granddaughter, Payton Kegley; her sister, Juanita Nolan; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Donna Scott; her sister, Marcella Sturgill; and her brother, Charles “Buddy” Rose.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, September 9, at Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Chris Stewart officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery in Galion.
Willis Gene Wells
1934-2008
JACKSON, OH. - Willis Gene Wells, 73, of Jackson, OH, formerly of Carter County, passed away Wednesday, September 24, at his residence.
He was born October 24, 1934 at Beetle, a son of the late Otis and Dora Marshall Wells.
He was a retired courier with First Care Medical Centers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Wells; three sisters, Ilene, Juanita and Christine Wells and a granddaughter.
His survivors include his wife, Donna Wells of Jackson; one daughter, Lisa (Richard) Graves of Jackson; three sons, Jeff Wells of Grand Junction, Colorado, Russell (Lena) Wells of Farmington, NM and Bryon (Angie) Wells of Beaver, OH; one brother, George Wells of Grayson; six granddaughters; six grandsons and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 27, at 3 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Bill Porter, minister.
Steven Scott Mara, Sr.
1966-2008
GRAYSON -Steven Scott Mara Sr, 41, of Grayson died Sunday October 5, 2008 at Kings Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY.
He was born December 19, 1966 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Scott was a member of Hitchins Freewill Baptist Church and worked for Cooks Family Foods in the maintenance department.
He is survived by his wife Nobalea Ann Brewer Mara, his father Jim Mara Sr. of Ceresco, NE; His mother Donna McGuire Tucker and Step-father Jack Tucker of Lincoln, NE; one daughter, Heather Mara of Golden, CO; two sons, Steven Mara Jr, and Braiden Mara at home; two brothers Jim Mara and Paul Mara both of Lincoln, NE; one half brother, Rick Dietz of Canaberry, TX.
Services will be conducted 1PM Thursday October 9, 2008 at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson, with Keith Hill and Paul Holbrook officiating.
Friends may call 6-9 PM Tuesday, anytime Wednesday and until time of service on Thursday at Sparks Funeral Home.

GRAYSON - Thelma Anita Keyes, 78, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, October 1, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born August 4, 1930 at Ashland a daughter of the late William Franklin and Doris Bayes Sexton.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Willard Wesleyan Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Keyes in 2003; one sister, Virginia Bowling; and three brothers, Claude Sexton, Millard “Bus” Sexton and Billy Joe Sexton.
Her survivors include two sisters-in-law: Roxie Sexton of Johns Run, and Joyce Keyes of Phoenix, AZ and a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 4, at 2 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with David Wilcox and Walter Wilcox, officiating. Burial followed in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Josephine Holbrook Hall
1947-2008
OLIVE HILL – Josephine Holbrook Hall, age 61, of Kentucky 986, Olive Hill, passed away Sunday morning, September 28, at the Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Mrs. Hall was born February 23, 1947, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Harve and Firl Nichols Holbrook.
Josephine retired from Cases’ Sewing Factory after thirty-seven years where she worked as a laborer.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Janice Holbrook Clay; one niece, Savonia Clay.
She is survived by one daughter, Cherl Holbrook of Olive Hill; one granddaughter, Sarah Ann Holbrook; one brother, Paul Holbrook of Franklin, Indiana; a niece and nephew whom she raised, Melissa Clay Downs and Kyle Clay both of Olive Hill; a great niece, Zandra Faith Sargent of Olive Hill; a very special friend, Rose Ann Sloan of Olive Hill; she also leaves other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
A graveside service was held Thursday, October 2, at the Tick Ridge Cemetery, on Tick Ridge Fork Road in Olive Hill, with Brother Kenneth Reynolds officiating,

Margaret Bernice Aller
1923-2008
KALKASKA, MICHIGAN – Margaret Bernice Aller, 85, of Kalkaska, Michigan, passed away Tuesday, September 30, in Traverse City, Michigan.
Graveside services were conducted Monday, October 6, at 10 a.m. at the Caskey Family Cemetery with Ray Simmons, minister. Burial followed in the Caskey Family Cemetery.
Malone Funeral Home in Grayson was in charge of local arrangements.
