Billy Gene Stephens
1937-2008
GRAYSON - Billy Gene Stephens, 71, of Lost Creek in Grayson, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, September 23, at his residence.
He was born July 25, 1937, in Greenup, a son of the late Charles Ellis and Mary Meadows Stephens.
He was the owner of Bill’s Appliances, was formerly employed with Jim’s Furniture and was of the Baptist Faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Billy Stephens Jr. in 1989; three brothers, Edgar Stephens, Ray Stephens and Bob Stephens; and five sisters, Lucy Stevens, Beulah Singleton, Effie Helmes, Anna Sue Daniels and Eula Ison.
His survivors include his wife, Mary Katherine Huffman Stephens of Lost Creek; three sons, Dallas (Lori) Stephens of Lost Creek, Troy Stephens of Lacombe, Louisiana and Travis Stephens of Lost Creek; one daughter, Vicky Heineman of Greenup; two brothers, Mack Stephens of Tennessee and Jack Stephens of Denver, Colorado; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, September 26, at 1 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Tom Riffe, minister. Burial followed in the Stephens Family Cemetery.
Brian Marc Waddell
1983-2008
OLIVE HILL - Mr. Brian Marc Waddell, age 25, of Goodan Creek Road, Olive Hill, passed away Monday morning, September 22, at Saint Clair Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
He was born June 9, 1983 in Rowan County, a son of Ronnie Waddell and step-mother, Vickie of Harrisburg, North Carolina; son of Christine Ann Daily Yontz and step-father, Michael Yontz of Salinas, California.
Brian was of the Catholic faith.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Charles Robert Waddell and maternal grandfather, Robert V. Daily; one uncle, Charles Allen Waddell.
He is survived by his wife of three years, Anita Roar Waddell; one daughter, Jasmine Waddell of Frankfort; two brothers, Tyler Waddell of Harrisburg, North Carolina, Christopher Yontz of Monterey, California; a sister, Sarah Yontz of Monterey, California; paternal grandmother, Mary M. Price Waddell of Olive Hill; maternal grandmother, Sheila Wedding Waddell and step grandfather, Bill Waddell also of Olive Hill; a great grandmother, Ruth M. Hreha, of Hobert, Indiana. He also leaves one nephew, several cousins and other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral service were held 11 a.m. Thursday, September 25, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Mark Caldwell officiating. Burial followed in the Waddell Rock Spring Cemetery on Goodan Creek Road in Olive Hill.
Tyler Waddell, Davey Bowling, Danny Waddell, Donnie Waddell, Jacob Waddell and Rodney Thornsberry served as pallbearers. Allie Daily and Brittney Stoudt served as honorary pallbearers.
Mitchell Ray Kiser
1942-2008
GULFPORT, MS - Chief Warrant Officer Mitchell Ray Kiser, US Navy, Ret, age 66, of Gulfport, passed away on September 27, in Gulfport.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Zornes of Firebrick, and A.B. Kiser of Carter County.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Holleman Kiser, of Gulfport; his daughter, Lisa Kiser Scott, and her husband, Ros, of Atlanta, GA; his son, Tim Kiser, and his wife, Vera, of Atlanta; his grandson, Christopher Vargas, of Atlanta, his sister, Von Osborne, and her husband, Richard, of Firebrick; his aunts, Bern Setty of Portsmouth, OH and Joy Floyd and her husband, Wade, of Dayton, OH; his uncle, Roger Lewis, and his wife, Barbara, of Portsmouth, OH; his brother in laws, Dean Holleman and his wife, Laura, Tim Holleman and his wife, Lisa, and Mike Holleman and his wife, Debbie, all of Gulfport; and his sister in law, Amy Angel, and her husband, Michael Martin of Gulfport.
Mitch was born in Grayson, on May 25, 1942. He was a graduate of Carter High School, Carter City, in 1960. Mitch graduated from Ohio University, Athens, OH in 1970 with a BBA and Xavier University, Cincinnati, OH in 1976 with a MBA.
He was a member of Bayou View Baptist Church. He entered the US Army in 1961 and after a tour in Vietnam in 1963, he joined the US Navy Reserve where he retired as Chief Warrant Officer 04 in 1997. He was a Special Agent with the Inspector General's Office in Atlanta, GA and retired in 1999.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #769, Portsmouth, OH, A & A Scottish Rite, Atlanta, GA as a 32nd degree Mason, the Naval Reserve Association, the American Legion, the Navy Seabee Veterans of America, the Association of Federal Investigators, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association.
The family wishes to give a very special thanks to the staff at Greenbriar Nursing Home; Memorial Hospital at Gulfport (Brea and crew of 4-C); Canon Hospice Care; Caregivers and friends, Oma Odom and Melba Collier; and TLC Home Health Care, Rita, Shaun, and Frank.

Garnett Reynolds Callahan
1923-2008
OLIVE HILL – Garnett Reynolds Callahan, age 85, of Olive Hill, passed away Monday, September 22, at her home.
She was born February 13, 1923 in Carter County, a daughter of the late Prentice and Nellie Henderson Reynolds.
Garnett was a homemaker and a member of the Upper Trough Camp Christian Holiness Church.
In addition to her parents, Garnett was preceded in death by two husbands, Ercel Porter and Curry Callahan; one sister, Wilma Akers; and one great-grandson, Michael Callahan.
She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Callahan and husband, Challas of Olive Hill; four brothers, Elwood Reynolds of Gallion, Ohio, Jim Reynolds, Charles Reynolds, and Fred Reynolds all of Olive Hill; four sisters, Eunice Hill of Mansfield, Ohio, Alma Wells also of Mansfield, Alberta Littleton of Columbus, Ohio, and Linda P’Simer of Olive Hill; two grandchildren, Rick Callahan and David “Harve” Callahan both of Olive Hill; four great-grandchildren, Bradley Callahan, Haley Callahan, Trevor Callahan and Taylor Callahan; also two very special friends, June Garvin and Joy Henderson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Callahan were conducted Thursday, September 25 at 2 p.m. at the Oney-Henderson Funeral Home. Officiating the service was Kenny Hamilton and Junior Logan. Burial followed at Garvin Ridge Cemetery.
Larry Gale Cundiff
1941-2008
SOLDIER - Larry Gale Cundiff, age 66, of Soldier, went home to be with the Lord Friday afternoon, September 26, at his residence.
He was born November 21, 1941, in Carter County, the son of the late Earl D. and Chrystal Furnish Cundiff.
Larry was a Deacon and a forty year member of the Soldier Church of God and was retired from Morehead State University as a football stadium grounds keeper. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Larry said, "Debbie was his first and only love". Debbie said, " foxhunting was his second love".
He is survived by his wife of forty years, Debbie Black Cundiff; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Arpil Dawn Cundiff; one daughter, Lora Stamper all of Soldier; one sister and brother-in-law, Sue and Lester Adkins of Olive Hill; one granddaughter, Holly Stamper; two grandsons, Joshua Cundiff and Brendon Cundiff all of Soldier. He also leaves a host of extended family and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, September 29, at the Soldier Church of God in Soldier, with Brother Byron Hargett, Brother Rob Puckett and Brother Gayle Price officiating. Burial followed in the Bradley Cemetery on Dry Branch Road in Olive Hill.
Josh Cundiff, Brendon Cundiff, Spike Skaggs, Roger Brown, Phillip Black, Bobby Day, Charles Black, Leck Bradley, Rob Puckett, Mark Adkins, Danny Waddell and Timmy Bradley served as pallbearers.
Baker Hargett, Junior Carnell, Kevin Brown, Brian Brown, and Lester Adkins served as honorary pallbearers.
Roy Landin Biggs
1933-2008
OLIVE HILL – Roy Landin Bays, age 75, passed away Saturday, September 20, at his home in Olive Hill.
He was born August 3, 1933 in Carter County, the son of the late Leonard and Inies Jordan Biggs.
Roy was a farmer, a heavy equipment operator and retired from the ASCS Office. He was also a United State Army Veteran.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by one brother, George Biggs; a sister, Betty Williams.
Roy is survived by his wife, Velda “Judy” Biggs; three sons, Keith Biggs, Danny Clark and wife Lora, Ronnie Clark and wife Linda all of Olive Hill; two daughters, Penny Burton and husband Mike, and Brenda Moore and husband Randy, both of Olive Hill; one brother, Wayne Biggs and wife Mary Kay of Olive Hill; one sister, Faye Smith of Tennessee; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services for Mr. Biggs were held Tuesday, September 23, at 11 a.m. at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home. Officiating the service was John Carter. Burial followed in the Biggs Cemetery.
Scott Clark, Joseph Webb, Dwayne Biggs, Rick Bond, Brandon Henderson and L. A. Biggs served as pallbearers.
Larry “Curly” Barker
1950-2008
ELLIOTT CO. – Mr. Larry “Curly” Barker, age 58, of State Highway 1620, Elliott County, passed away Monday morning, September 22, in the Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Mr. Barker was born May 14, 1950, in Elliott County, a son of Roe and June Wright Barker of Sandy Hook.
He was a Veteran and a member of the American Legion Post #138 of Olive Hill.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Wright.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Kenny Cox of Olive Hill, and Samantha and James Kelley of Morehead; five grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Mary Barker of Olive Hill; one sister, Janie Barker of Sandy Hook.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, at the Waddell and Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, with Brother Larry Bays officiating. Burial will follow at a later date.
Anna Jennette Black Meredith
1934-2008
MOREHEAD – Anna Jennette Black Meredith, age 74, of Louisville, formerly of Rowan County, passed away Saturday, September 27, at the Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Indiana.
She was born February 5, 1934, in Haldeman, and was the daughter of the late Milzia and Geneva Sturgill Black. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Sue Black and Betty Jo Douglas, and one brother, Ronnie Lee Black.
She is survived by one daughter, Tammy Sharp of New Albany, Indiana; one granddaughter, Chaney Jacobson of Sellersburg, Indiana; five sisters, Shirley Coyle of Morehead, Kitty Cross of McDonald, Ohio, Debra Cundiff and Carolyn Brown, both of Soldier, and Teresa Conn of Girard, Ohio; and two brothers, James Willie Black of Girard, Ohio, and Charles Phillip Black of Olive Hill.
Mrs. Meredith was a retired employee of the American Tobacco Company.
Graveside services and burial were conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday, September 30, at New Sill Cemetery with Brother Gayle Price officiating. There was a private family visitation.
Pallbearers were Roger Brown, Nick Jacobson, Kevin Brown, Brian Brown, Phillip Black, Steve Cundiff, and John Liles.
Arrangements were under the direction of Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals.
Kristia Susan Bowles Kouns
1990-2008
ASHLAND - Kristia Susan Bowles Kouns, 50, Loving wife of Richard D. Kouns for 14 years died, Thursday, August 28, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
She was born December 28, 1957 in Charleston, Wva. The daughter of the late Charles and Betty Affolter.
She was preceded in death by one brother, William " Buck" Bowles and a niece Amber Lynn Bowles. She was a member of the Pactouls United Methodist Church and a member with Avon. Kristia was a Homemaker, loving mother, wife and grandmother.
Survivors at home are her precious grandchildren, Jeffrey "Peyton" and Kirah Jaden Spillman; one daughter, Deborah Spillman Marshall of Grayson; two sons, Jeffery Spillman of Grayson, Charles Adrion (Nina) Affolter of Grayson; two adopted children, a daughter, Angela Dawn Swanigan,of Grayson, and a son Adrian Ray (Angie) of Grayson; one sister, Terry (Bill) Riser of Pinkerton, OH; two brothers, Michael Affolter of Grayson, Robert (Joyce) Affolter of Grayson; twelve grandchildren, Charles Drew Affolter, Serena M. Affolter, Ciera Affolter, Jeffrey Peyton, Timothy Caden, Kirah Jaden, Elizabeth Allie Shae Spillman, Kendra Marshall, Adrianna and Brandon Swanigan, Jeffery and Jesse Lawhorn; four nephews and four nieces.
Services were conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, August 31, by Anita Wells, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson.
Maude M. Walker Wilburn
1920-2008
COLUMBUS, OH - Maude M. Walker Wilburn, age 87, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Olive Hill, passed away Sunday morning, September 28, at the Franklin Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Columbus, Ohio.
She was born December 4, 1920, in Carter County, a daughter of the late James Hiram and Bertha Knipp Walker.
Maude was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Warren Ernest Wilburn and one brother, James Marcus Walker.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James and Sue Ellen Wilburn of Columbus, Ohio; one daughter, Karen Sloan of Columbus, Ohio; six grandchildren, John Wilburn, Jeff Wilburn, Beth Snare, Madison Wilburn, Katie Wilburn and Virginia Roush; seven great-grandchildren, Alexis Wilburn, Brittany Wilburn, Bronwyn Snare, Danny Roush, Charlie Roush, Adam Wilburn and Jerrod Wilburn; three sisters, Nellie Dailey and Gincy Dickison both of Olive Hill, and Myrtle Debord of Grayson. She also leaves nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral service were held 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 1, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Marty Dailey officiating. Burial followed in the Bailey Cemetery Grahn.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Clarence C. McGlone
1919-2008
LONGWOOD, FL - Clarence C. McGlone, age 89, Longwood, FL died on September 14.
He is survived by his wife Mary Collette McGlone, one sister Virgie Humphreys of Carter County, and several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. Born on January 2, 1919 in Carter County to the late William Green McGlone and Margaret Genora Kiser McGlone, he was one of twelve children including the late Ezekiel Raleigh McGlone, Mahala Hazel McGinnis, Eva McGinnis, Lottie Burge, James Hervie McGlone, Mae Morgan, Marie Frances McGlone, Beatrice McGlone, Prudie Holbrook, and Bessie Akins. A graduate of Morehead State University, McGlone served in the US Army Air Corps during WW II. He retired in 1976 from a career as a civilian training officer with the Air Force Logistics Command. He was designated as a Kentucky Colonel in 1982.
A memorial service will occur at Carter Christian Church on 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 4, with Rev. Larry Barrell officiating. Interment will follow at the A.B. (Gold) Kiser Cemetery in Carter. The family will receive visitors at the church beginning at 10 a.m. prior to the service.

Louie Edward Clark
1928-2008
Louie Edward Clark, 79, of Olive Hill, passed away on Monday, September 1, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born October 29, 1928 in Lawton, a son of the late Morton and Belle Clark.
He was a Carpenter, a Korean Army Veteran and a member of Local 472 of Ashland, the V.F.W. and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pina Boggs and a brother, Jim Clark.
His survivors include two sons, Louie E. “Corky” (Bonnie) Clark Jr. of Olive Hill and Garry (Pam) Colgrove of Nicholasville; three daughters, Diana (Don) Zak of Chicktowaga, NY, Debra (Jody) Adams of Grayson, and Dawn (Rich) Goodan of Mt.Sterling; three brothers, Donald Morton Clark of Indiana, Bill Clark of Washington and Sherman Clark of Olive Hill; one sister, Virgie Nell Merrill of Georgia; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, September 4, at 2 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Ron Arnett, minister. Burial followed in the Clark Family Cemetery. Graveside military rites were conducted by the American Legion.
William T. Frame
1919-2008
OLIVE HILL – Mr. Frame died Wednesday, September 10, at his home.
He was born July 24, 1919 in Richmond, Indiana.
He retired from General Tire and Rubber Company, as a Quality Control Employee.
Mr. Frame was a paratrooper in the 50 4th Parachute Regiment, of the 82nd Airborne Division. He served six campaigns from Sicily to the Bulge from 1942-1945.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Beck Harris; a son, Mr. Ted Wilson; a long time friend, Sharon S. Wilson; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Frame were conducted Saturday, September 13, at 11 a.m. at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home. Officiating was Gayle Price. Burial followed in Wilson Cemetery of Dry Branch Road.
Willis Gene Wells
1934-2008
JACKSON, OH - Willis Gene Wells of Jackson, Ohio died Wednesday, September 24, at his residence.
He was born October 24, 1934 at Beetle.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 27, at 3 p.m. with Bill Porter, minister, at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson.
Henry T. Burchett

GRAYSON - Henry T. Burchett, 77, of Grayson passed away Tuesday evening, September 23, at the Hospice Care Center in Ashland.
He was born May 20, 1931 in Olive Hill.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, September 27, at 11 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Joe Mullins officiating.
Burial followed at the East Carter County Memory Gardens.
