Clay Edison Dixon

1955-2008

OLIVE HILL – Mr. Clay Edison Dixon, age 52, of Olive Hill, passed away Friday morning, September 5, at the Rockcastle Hospital in Mount Vernon.

Mr. Dixon was born September 13, 1955, in Carter County, a son of the late Merle and Stella Juanita Stevens Dixon.

He was a self-employed carpenter. Clay loved playing his guitar, listening to music and writing songs. He has a great passion for being outdoors, art and just entertaining everyone.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Jay Kiser and Michael Anthony Dixon.

He is survived by his companion of six years, Deborah Pennington of Olive Hill; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jeremy Edison and Jennifer Dixon and Zachary Bryce Dixon all of Olive Hill; one daughter, Juanita Rose Dixon of Olive Hill; one step-daughter, Wanda Faye Fields of Morehead; five grandchildren, Jeremiah Dixon, Nicole Dixon, Kaitlynn Dixon Williams, Dakota Knipp and Reece Knipp; the mothers of his children, Beverly Davis and Carolyn Henderson both of Olive Hill; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Stanley Ray Kiser of Morehead, Dale Allen and Diane Dixon of Charlotte, Michigan, Merle Dixon, Jr. of Olive Hill, David Timothy and Gwen Dixon of Greenup; one sister and brother-in-law, Lula Star and Doug Buckner of Olive Hill; he also leaves several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, September 8, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Darrell Gallihue officiating. Burial followed in the Tick Ridge Cemetery in Olive Hill.

Family and friends served as pallbearers.



John Gaines Womack, II

1950-2008

GRAYSON - John Gaines Womack II of Grayson passed away Thursday, September 4, at Kings Daughters Medical Center after a sudden illness.

He was born June 20, 1950 in Ashland, a son of Margaret Stephens Womack of Grayson and the late John Gaines Womack.

John was the owner and CEO of Womack Development, Inc in Ashland and a partner with S W Grayson, LLC. He completed many successful commercial projects throughout the tri-state area during his construction career.

John graduated from the University of KY in 1973 where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity and the UK track team. He has been an avid “Big Blue” fan all his life.

He was a member of the Grayson Jaycees, UK Alumni Association, the Ashland Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #350 and Bellefonte Country Club. He was also a member of the Bagby Memorial United Methodist Church.

Leisure activities he loved and enjoyed over the years were golfing, boating, traveling, going to UK games and spending time at his favorite retreat, Lake St. John. Since the age of 15, he loved singing and playing music with his friends and the BBC.

Surviving are his wife of 34 years, Amanda Hart Womack of Grayson; two sons, John Gaines Womack III of Lexington, and Hunter Frazee (Ashley) Womack of Grayson. In addition to his mother, Margaret Stephens Womack of Grayson, he also leaves behind a devoted sister Karen L. Womack of Oxford, OH.

He enjoyed the support and companionship of his extended family George and Marsha Jones of Maysville, Ricky and Peggy Gray of Elizaville, and Frazee and Patricia Hart of Flemingsburg, and six nephews. He also leaves behind his devoted companion “Baxter”.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, 2:30 p.m. at the Bagby Memorial United Methodist Church in Grayson with the Rev. Norman H. Wasson and Rev. Brad Smart officiating. Interment followed in the Hillcrest Burial Park. Ashland Elks B.P.O.E. #350 had services Saturday at 7:30p.m.

Malone Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.



Ruth Mundy Messer

1926-2008

OLIVE HILL - Mrs. Ruth Mundy Messer, age 81, of Olive Hill, passed away Tuesday evening, September 2, at her residence in Olive Hill.

Mrs. Messer was born September 20, 1926, in Bath County, a daughter of the late Albert and Edna Flannery Mundy.

Ruth was a loving mother and grandmother; a Christian and was a member of the First Christian Church of Albany, Kentucky, being baptized in the Cumberland River. She attended the Oakland Christian Church in Olive Hill. She was a retired school teacher and a bookkeeper.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-nine years, Wayne Cotton Messer; two sons, Michael Messer and Gary Wayne Messer; two brothers, James Mundy and Charles Mundy; one sister, Lenora Evans.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Sue and Charles Geiger of Crosby, Texas; four granddaughters, Julie Howard, Beth Smith, Tracie Evans and Amanda Grimes; twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Edwin Mundy of Olive Hill; special friends and caregivers, Charlene Callihan and Sharon Baker. She also leaves several other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 5, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Lee Gussler officiating. Burial followed in the Grayson Memorial Park in Grayson.

Marvin Gearhart, John Cundiff, John Stapleton, Jim Barker, Enoch Hicks, Gail Callihan, Albert Callihan, Jr. and Rocky Stevens served as pallbearers.



James Alfred McGlone

1924-2008

GRAYSON - James Alfred McGlone, 84, of Grayson, died Thursday morning, September 4, at his residence.

He was born February 11, 1924 in Boone Grassy, a son of the late Russell and Erie Messer McGlone.

He was retired after 37 years as a Kentucky Highway Engineer, a member of the Grayson First Church of Christ, and a past elder of the Oak Grove Church of Christ. Mr. McGlone was a World War II Navy Veteran serving from 1941 to 1945.

In Addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, Buck McGlone, Deward McGlone, Howard McGlone, Leonard McGlone, Donald McGlone, Curtis McGlone; and three sisters, Della Burchett, Alma Mayo, and Maxine Montgomery.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Christine Rupert McGlone; three sons, Chris McGlone and his wife Ellen of Centerville, VA, David McGlone and his wife Judy of Grayson, Carl Wayne McGlone and his wife Anna of Grayson; four grandchildren, Callie Gollihue and her husband Dough of Lexington, Jason McGlone and his wife Hannah of Grayson, Caleb McGlone of Grayson, and Leah McGlone of Centerville, VA; one brother, Herman McGlone of Grayson; and one sister, Christine Lowe of Grayson.

Services were conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, September 6, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson with Tim Carper Officiating. Burial followed in East Carter County Memory Gardens, with Military Rites conducted by the East Carter JROTC.

Pallbearers were: George Scott, Jim Phillips, Curt Bair, Carl Blevins, Doug Gollihue, and Virgil Messer. Honorary Pall Bearers were: Harmon Suttles, Charlie McGuire, Ronnie Miller, Dempsy Mullins, Winnie Jones, and Amon Yates.



Anna Jewell Blevins Rose

1940-2008

OLIVE HILL - Anna Jewell Blevins Rose, age 68, formerly of Olive Hill passed away Monday, August 18, at her home in Shelby, Ohio.

Anna was born August 11, 1940, in Carter County, the daughter of the late Crait and Edna Wagner Blevins. She was also a retired factory worker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence G. Rose.

She is survived by two sons, Clarence G. Rose, Jr of Acworth, Georgia and Arnold R. Rose of Mansfield, Ohio; two daughters, Angela M. and Ernest Smith of Mansfield, Ohio and Ora G. Norris also of Mansfield; one brother, Bobby Blevins of Mansfield, Ohio; two sisters, Dottie Vinyard of Acworth, Georgia and Wanda Apostle of Mansfield, Ohio; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 22, at 11 a.m. at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home. Officiating was Brother Bob Stapleton. Burial followed in the Rose Family Cemetery.



John Paul Campbell, Sr.

1946-2008

LOST CREEK - John Paul Campbell Sr., 62, of Lost Creek, went to be with his Lord on Monday, September 8, in Our lady of Bellefonte Hospital.

He was born May 21, 1946 at Lost Creek, a son of the late Curtis and Alta Dillow Campbell.

He was a retired farmer and a former Greenup County School Bus Driver. He attended the Hensley Hollow Pentecostal Church of Christ and was a member of the Edison Community Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John Paul Campbell, Jr.; two brothers, William Campbell and Glenn Campbell and a sister, Darlene Campbell.

His survivors include his wife of 45 years, Brenda Stone Campbell of Lost Creek; three daughters, Alta (Junior) Taylor, Loris Bradley and Danielle (David) Valandingham all of Grayson; two sons, Curtis L. (Pennie) Campbell of Grayson and Timothy Campbell of Mt. Gilead, OH; one brother, Curtis Campbell Jr. of Greenup; five sisters, Myrtle Cummings of Minford, OH, Nellie Fay Bias of Greenup, Freda Holbrook of Florida, Anna Colley of Florida and Betty Harlow of Grayson; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, September 11, at 1 p.m. at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Rick Morrison, David Valandingham and David Niece, officiating. Burial will be in the Campbell Family Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, September 10, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.



Paul M. Brown

1920-2008

WESTWOOD - Paul M. Brown, 87, of Westwood died Friday afternoon at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital following an extended illness.

Mr. Brown was born November 6, 1920 on Brown Ridge in Elliott County.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland. Burial will follow at Dixon Cemetery.



Devon Lewis Mays

1967-2008

ASHLAND – Devon Lewis Mays, 40, of Ashland, son of Lewis and Phyllis Mays of Ashland, died Friday evening at Community Hospice Care Center following an extended illness. Devon was born December 10, 1967 at Ashland.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Preston Family Funeral Home by Brother David McGranahan and Brother Lewis Clark. Burial followed in the Kirby Flats Cemetery.



Billy R. “Bill” Shoemaker

1935-2008

MANSFIELD, OH – Billy R. “Bill” Shoemaker, 73, of Mansfield, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 5.

He was born on July 11, 1935 in Woodville, WV.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 9, at 1 p.m. at Wyandotte Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Phillips officiating. Burial followed at Oakgrove Memorial Park, in Lexington, Ohio.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Werner Funeral Services.
