William McKinley Gilliam

1917-2008

VANCEBURG - Mr. William McKinley Gilliam, age 90, of Salt Lick Road, Vanceburg, passed away Wednesday evening, August 6, at the residence of his daughter.

Mr. Gilliam was born August 11, 1917 in Lewis County, a son of the late John and Georgia Ann Adams Gilliam.

William was a loving father, grandfather, neighbor, and a friend to all who knew him. He worked as a sawmill operator and logger.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-four years, Irene Rose Gilliam; a son, Harold Gilliam and a daughter, Carol Gilliam; two brothers, Estill Gilliam and Stanley Ray Gilliam; six sisters, Elizabeth Gilliam, Florie Bond, Corey Stevens, Nannie Zornes, Florene Gilliam and Mary Rose; two grandchildren, Serena Gilliam and Sara Dawn Cushard; a one infant granddaughter.

He is survived by six sons and daughters-in-law, Earnest and Rachel Gilliam of Olive Hill; Charles and Shari Gilliam of Orlando, Florida, Herman and Linda Gilliam of Laurel, Indiana, Donnie and Diane Gilliam, Fred and Ramona Gilliam and Michael Gilliam all of Vanceburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Jack Cushard, Betty and Jessie Cushard of Vanceburg, and Wilma and Dan Cline of Sevierville, Tennessee; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. He also leaves other family members, neighbors, and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 9, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Delmar Logan, Jr. and Brother Eugene Rayburn officiating. Burial followed in the Gilliam Family Cemetery in Lewis County.

Donnie Cline, Ernie Gilliam, Charlie Gilliam, Randy Gilliam, George Cushard, Darrin Cushard, and John Gilliam served as pallbearers.



Goldia Riley Stevens

1915-2008

CARTER CITY – Mrs. Goldia Riley Stevens, age 93, of 63 Swan Lane, Carter City, passed away Tuesday afternoon, August 5, at the residence of her daughter.

Mrs. Stevens was born January 25, 1915 in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Jack and Mary Jane Richmond Riley.

She was a Christian for more than seventy years being the oldest member of Old Trace Community Church in Lewis County. She was a hard worker and was a homemaker all her life.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of fifty seven years, Ashby Stevens; one son, Charles L. Stevens; one grandson, Stoney Stevens; four brothers, Cleave Riley, Joe Riley, Everett Riley and Essie Riley; four sisters, Ada Duncan, Laura Phillips, Violet Gulley and her twin, Stella Logan.

She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Donald Bond, Zelma and Bradley Roe and Voline and Bill Bradley all of Olive Hill, and Shirley and Mitch Roe of Emerson; three sons and daughters-in-law, Sammy and Linda Stevens, Stevie and Laura Stevens all of Emerson, and Mitchell Stevens of Olive Hill; one brother and sister-in-law, Tony and Olive Riley of Cathage, Indiana; one daughter-in-law, Betty Stevens of Emerson; 17 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; along with a host of extended family, friends and neighbors who will sadly mourn her passing.

The funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, August 9, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Jim Porter, Brother Clyde Holbrook and Brother Dewayne Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Stevens Family Cemetery at Emerson.

Allen Bond, Butch Stevens, Brian Roe, Tommy Bond, Jeff Roe, Tony Nolan, Steven Roe, Jamie Roe, Ashby Stevens, Dustyn Stevens and Dalton Stevens served as pallbearers.



Olive Helen Kiser James

1923-2008

OLIVE HILL - Mrs. Olive Helen Kiser James, age 85, of Three Pine Road, in Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday evening, August 9, at the Community Hospice Care Center, in Ashland.

Mrs. James was born February 2, 1923, in Carter County, and is a daughter of the late Herbert and Lula Crank Kiser.

Olive was a retired employee of Case Sewing Factory in Olive Hill, where she worked as a seamstress. She was a Christian and a member of the Grahn Church of Jesus Christ.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by an infant son, Bruce Allen James; Mondane Kiser Stapleton (whom she raised), one brother, Harold Kiser; three sisters, Aliene Fraley, Gladys Gilliam and Maxine Kiser.

She is survived by her husband of forty-nine years, Thomas A. James, two brothers, Harlan Kiser of Mansfield, Ohio and Richard Kiser of Hitchens. She also leaves twelve nieces, four nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 13, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother John Jordan and Brother John Bradley officiating. Burial will follow in the Kiser Cemetery, in Grahn.

Mark Boggs, Brian Justice, Darrin Kiser, Dakota Cox, Harold Gilliam and Clifton Gilliam will serve as pallbearers.



Ilet Parish Dailey

1920-2008

OLIVE HILL – Ms. Ilet Parish Dailey, age 87, of Olive Hill passed away Thursday afternoon, August 7, in the Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Grayson.

Ms. Dailey was born October 4, 1920 in Carter County, to the late Henry and Ilena Lawhun Parish.

Ilet was a homemaker, devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all who knew her. She was a Christian and a member of the Bethel Christian Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Ricky D. Hall; one sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Ollnie Fannin; one infant sister and three infant brothers.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Paula Dailey of Grayson, Gary and Terri Dailey, John and Cathy Dailey of Olive Hill; two daughters and a son-in-law, Teresa Hall of Olive Hill and Alice and Eddie Butler of Vanceburg; 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, six niece and one nephew. She also leaves a host of other family members, neighbors and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 10, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill with Brother Mark Blankenship and Brother Terry Dean officiating. Burial followed in the Bethel Cemetery on Route 2, Olive Hill.

Brent Dailey, Petey Dailey, Nick Hays, Raymond Oney, Jason Hall, Ronnie Fannin served as pallbearers. David Ray Dailey served as honorary pallbearer.



Bruce Holbrook

1955-2008

ELLIOTT CO. - Mr. Bruce Holbrook, age 53, of Elliott County, passed away Saturday morning, August 9, at the Saint Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

Mr. Holbrook was born May 9, 1955, in Elliott County, to the late Eddie Ray and Ruth Mattlene Lyons Holbrook.

Bruce was an employee of Sealmaster Corporation, where he worked as a machine operator. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul Holbrook, Dennis Holbrook and James Eddie Holbrook.

He is survived by his wife of eight years, Cheryl Viars Holbrook; one son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Georgetta Holbrook of Olive Hill; two daughters and one son-in-law, Margina and Jim Justice of Salt Lick, and Marquita Holbrook of Morehead; one step-son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Hannah Clark of Olive Hill; one step-daughter, Alicia Clark of Olive Hill; eleven grandchildren; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Bud and Mary Holbrook of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Charles and Joyce Holbrook, Kenneth and Kathy Holbrook all of Olive Hill, Keith and Tina Holbrook of Morehead; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Eva Mae and John White of Mice, Mississippi, Maudie and Vernon Gilbert, Louise and Dorsey Middleton, all of Olive Hill, Maxine and Terry Harris of Grayson, Pam and David Egleston of Morehead, and Lisa and Dallas Middleton of Olive Hill. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Jim Stevens and Brother Arlie Reynolds officiating. Burial followed in the Holbrook Cemetery in Elliott County.

Joe Barricks, Brian Lemaster, Jim Justice, Jonah Middleton, Scott Clark, Rocky Richmond, Roger Crockett, Dallas Middleton and Carlos Middleton served as pallbearers.



Joel Darrell Hargett

1956-2008

OLIVE HILL - Mr. Joel Darrell Hargett, age 51, of Prater Road, Olive Hill, passed away Sunday morning, August 10, at his residence.

Mr. Hargett was born August 12, 1956, in New Castle, Indiana, and is a son of Jimmie Ray and Elsie Gay Stevens Hargett of Olive Hill.

Joel was a Christian and attended the Ross Chapel Christian Holiness Church in Olive Hill, Kentucky. He was a 1974 graduate of West Carter High School. Joel was an avid sports fan of University of Kentucky Wild Cats Basketball and loved playing the drums.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of twenty-nine years, Kimberly Ann Jones Hargett; two sons, Zachary Jay Hargett and Andrew Ronald Hargett both of Olive Hill; one daughter, Kelli Ann Hargett and husband Kurt Taylor of Morehead; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Kathy Hargett, Darrin and Chimila Hargett all of Olive Hill; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kandi and Dave Carpenter of Marysville, Ohio, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ronald and Mitzi Ann Gearhart Jones; grandmother-in-law, Norma Jones all of Olive Hill. He also leaves a very special pet dog, Luther, several nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends that will sadly miss him.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 13, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Gayle Price and Brother Terry Dean officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Family Cemetery on James Chapel Road in Olive Hill.

Byron Hargett, Keith Hargett, Timmy Hargett, Shawn Hatton, Butch Hatton, Mike Hatton and Dave Carpenter will serve as pallbearers.



John Paul Mabry Sr.

1922-2008

GRAYSON - John Paul Mabry Sr, 85, of Grayson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 8, in Community Hospice Care Center in Ashland, following a brief battle with bone cancer. He passed with his loving family by his side.

Paul was born on October 21, 1922, in Grayson, the son of the late Major M. and Amanda Carroll Mabry.

His sister, Mary Hoffner of Florida, preceded him in death.

He was retired from Mansbach Metal Co. in Ashland.

He had a love for the word of God and enjoyed ministering at local churches. He attended Gregoryville Christian Holiness Church.

Sadly left behind is his family; his wife of 62 years, Marie G. Mabry; his sister, Pauline Mabry of Grayson; four sons, Paul (Bonnie) Mabry Jr, of Grahn, Ron (Patsy) Mabry of Grayson, Mark (Dee) Mabry of Lexington, Mike (Dee Dee) Mabry of Grayson; three daughters, Ruth Ann Toller and her Companion David of Grayson, Linda (Leonard) Barnhill of Grayson, Judy (Bill) Rhodes of Salem, IN; nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral Services were held 1 p.m. Monday August 11, at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by, John Moore, Clayton Hanshaw and Lewis Davis, Ministers. He was laid to rest in Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Olive Hill.



Monie Thompson Campbell Mullins

1910-2008

FRANKFORT - Services for Monie Thompson Campbell Mullins, 97, of Highland Parkway were held Friday at 2 p.m. at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home. Rev. Keith Crum officiated. Burial followed at Frankfort Cemetery.

Mrs. Mullins died Wednesday at her home. She was a native of Little Blane. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Mullins was a member of Frankfort Wesleyan Church; she was the oldest member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 4075; and she was a Kentucky Colonel.

Mrs. Mullins was the daughter of the late Thomas and Jeanette Thompson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert P. Campbell; her son, Thomas Campbell, and twelve siblings.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeanette Camden, Frankfort; sons, Harold P. (Myrl) Campbell, Brewster, WA, and Bruce D. (Brenda) Campbell, Rush; daughter-in-law, Martha Campbell, Catlettsburg; fourteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren; and eight great-great grandchildren.

Pall bearers were Clifford Camden, Sr., Clifford Camden, Jr., Chuck Campbell, Kenny Campbell, Mark Wilburn, Doug Campbell, Robert Campbell, and Martin Milton, Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Michael Campbell, Chris Campbell, Teresa Camden, Jessica Camden, Garrett Campbell, Connie Camden, and Tory Sayer.
