Lillie “Elizabeth” Stevens Waddell

1920-2008

OLIVE HILL – Mrs. Lillie “Elizabeth” Stevens Waddell, age 88, of Route 3, Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday evening, July 1, at her residence.

Mrs. Waddell was born February 28, 1920, in Carter County, a daughter of the late James and Margarett Barker Stevens.

Elizabeth was a homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend to all who knew her. She was a devoted Christian and has been a member of the Upper Bruin Baptist Church for thirty-eight years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, Everett Waddell, on January 2, 1988; an infant daughter; four brothers, Marvin Stevens, Ezra Stevens, Thomas Stevens and Othar Stevens; three sisters, Eithel Stevens, Ola Knipp, and Lola Messer; one son-in-law, Bill Reed.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Eithel Whitt and her husband Wayne, and Blanche Reed all of Elliott County; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Stanley Stevens, Hermal Stevens and wife Sharon all of Delong, Indiana; eight grandchildren, Brenda Lewis of Sandy Hook, Bonnie Reed, and Jeff Reed both of Elliott County, Aletha Skaggs of Demossville, Amy Sparks of Olive Hill, Billy Reed of Elliott County, Dewey Reed of Morehead, and Steven W. Whitt of Olive Hill; eleven great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren (and one on the way); one step-great-great-grandchild; one sister, Dollie Barker Sammons of Olive Hill; one sister-in-law, Louise Stevens of Morehead; she also leaves several nieces and nephews along with a host of extended family members, neighbors, and friends who will sadly mourn her passing.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 5, at the Upper Bruin Baptist Church in Elliott County, with Brother Ennis Lewis, Jr., Brother Tim Porter, and Brother Russell Griffith officiating. Burial followed in the Waddell Family Cemetery at Gimlet. Waddell and Whitt Funeral Home were in charge of arrangements.

Jeff Reed, Billy Reed, Dewey Reed, Steven W. Whitt, James Lewis, Kenny Skaggs, Danny Sparks, and Dude Johnson served as pallbearers.

Galen Reed, Tyler Skaggs, William Reed, Michael Skaggs, Caleb Maggard, Dewey T. Reed, Ayden Reed, and Cody Whitt served as honorary pallbearers.



Goldie Weaver

Goodwin Fannin

1922-2008

LEWIS CO. - Mrs. Goldie Weaver Goodwin Fannin, age 85, of Lewis County, was called home to be with the Lord, Friday morning, July 4, at the residence of her daughter.

Mrs. Fannin was born August 18, 1922, at Camp Dix, and is a daughter of the late Conner and Bertha Horsley Goodwin.

Goldie was a homemaker, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, neighbor and friend to all who knew her. She was a Christian and a faithful member of the Scott’s Branch Church of Christ. The center of her entire life was her love and service to the Lord Jesus Christ. She was well known for her optimistic view of life; Her genuine caring attitude was felt by all those who knew her. She gave hope and encouragement, always seeing the best in people and helping them to realize how special they are in God’s sight. Her strength, love and admirable example are an inspiration to her family and friends. This legacy of love will long live through the generations that follow her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Judy Kaye Jordan; one grandson, Jonathan Kent Thornsberry; three brothers, Homer Goodwin, Leo Goodwin and George Goodwin; one sister, Gladys Curden.

She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Kenneth Fannin whom she married September 7, 1942; one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Wayne and Sue Fannin of Camp Dix; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne and Maurice Reeder of Camp Dix, Mary and Rick Thornsberry of Corbin; one son-in-law, Kermit Jordan of Vanceburg; twelve grandchildren, Darrel Fannin, Janie Zornes, Billy Fannin, Chris Jordan, Michelle Carroll, Greta Douthat, Randy Reeder, Natalie Elam, Derrick Reeder, Jeremy Thornsberry, Adam Thornsberry and Maggie Todd; twenty great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Otha Goodwin and Lovell Goodwin both of Ashland; two sisters, Esther Crisp of Wheelersburg, Ohio and Dorothy Kelly of North Kingsville, Ohio. She also leaves several nieces, nephews, other family members, church family and friends who will sadly miss her.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Monday, July 7, at the Scott’s Branch Church of Christ in Lewis County, with Brother Ronald Lindeman officiating. Burial followed in the Morgan Cemetery in Lewis County.

Her devoted grandsons served as her pallbearers: Darrel Fannin, Randy Reeder, Adam Thornsberry, Billy Fannin, Derrick Reeder, Chris Jordan and Jeremy Thornsberry.

Globe Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.



Barton David Little

1983-2008

FLATWOODS - Barton David Little, 24, of Flatwoods, passed away Sunday, July 6, the results of a motorcycle accident.

He was born December 25, 1983 a son of Arnold Little of Flatwoods and Betty Dalton of Grayson.

He was a Carman with CSX and was a member of the Brotherhood of Railway Carman of America and the American Motorcycle Association.

Preceding him in death was his paternal grandfather, Michael Lutz and his maternal grandparents, William (Eck) and Allene Dalton.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Anthony Little of Grayson; one sister, Lindsey Dalton of Grayson; and his paternal grandmother, Betty Lutz of South Point, OH.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 10, at 10 a.m. at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with James Harris, minister. Burial will be in the Grayson Memorial Burial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, July 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday after 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.



John Kitchen

1937-2008

GRAYSON - Mr. John Kitchen, age 71, of State Highway 7 North, Grayson, Kentucky, passed away Saturday morning, July 5, 2008, at the residence of his son in Grayson.

Mr. Kitchen was born May 25, 1937, in Boyd County, Kentucky, a son of the late William Goble and Eva May Adams Kitchen.

John was a former employee of Worly Steel and Supply in Delaware, Ohio.

In additional to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Debra May Prince; one sister, Willa Faye Snyder and five infant sisters.

He is survived by three sons, John W. Kitchen, Wesley G. Kitchen and Mark D. Kitchen all of Grayson, Kentucky; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Ray Kitchen of Delaware, Ohio; two sisters, Lorraine Perkins and Linda Harmon both of Grayson, Kentucky. He also leaves other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008, at the Sexton Cemetery in Hitchens, Kentucky with Brother Ray McGranhan, and Brother Paul Daniel Holbrook officiating.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Waddell & Whitt Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, Kentucky is in charge of all the arrangements.



Frank R. Mutters

1922-2008

GRAYSON - Frank Mutters, age 85, of Grayson, passed away Friday, July 4 in Kingsbrook in Ashland.

Mr. Mutters was born August 15, 1922, in Boyd County, a son of the late Frank Hiram and Mary Alice Turner Mutters.

He was a painter with Local #1072 in Ashland, a World War II Navy Veteran, and a member of Trimble Lodge #145 in Grayson and a member of the Wilson Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Duncan Mutters; one son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Judi Mutters of Jupiter, Florida; one daughter, Alice J. Huber of Cape Coral, Florida; one brother, Harry Gordon Mutters, Mountain Home, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Christopher, Jeffory Bruce and Shannan Kees; one great-granddaughter, Molly Breann Kees; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his daughter, Judith Griffith; and one brother, James Turner Mutters.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, July 6 at 2 at Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson. Harry Thacker officiated the service. Burial followed in East Carter County Memory Gardens.



Euthia Ellen Combs Miller 1932-2008

GRAYSON - Ellen Miller, 76, of Grayson, died Saturday, July 5, at Wurtland Manor.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 8 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery with Delmar Rogers Officiating.
