Lillie Opal Robertson Haney
1936-2008
CARTER CITY - Lillie Opal Robertson Haney, 71, of Carter City, departed this life May 5, after an extended illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arch and Lillie Robertson; Husbands, Tillman Haney and Clyde Haney; her brothers, Clifford, Raymond, Walter, Arch Jr., Harold, James and Delbert Robertson and Wilson Moore and a sister, Minnie Inice Robertson.
She is survived, besides her Beloved Jim Hall; by her brothers, Ewing Robertson of Upper Sandusky, OH, Earnest Robertson of Okeechobee, FL and Edgar Robertson of Phoenix, AZ; her sisters, Emma Rhoden of FL, Margaret McBride of Linden, TN, Christine Schenk of Upper Sandusky, OH and Meretia Wolf of Greenup, KY; three sons, Edward “Tammy” Haney, Richard Haney and Kevin “Selena” Haney all of Carter City;
two daughters, Lillie “Ronnie” Hall of Hitchins, and Gail “John” Caudill of Carter City;
six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Maranatha Bible Church in Webbville.
Viewing will be at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson, on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 8, at 1 p.m. at the Maranatha Bible Church with Jesse Fyffe and Steve Owen, officiating. Viewing will begin Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the Maranatha Bible Church Cemetery to await the resurrection.
James “Jim” Burchett
1938-2008
OLIVE HILL - Mr. James "Jim" Burchett, age 70, Henderson Branch Road in Olive Hill, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday morning, April 16, at his residence.
He was born February 27, 1938 in Carter County, and is a son of the late Edward and Myrtle Daily Burchett.
Jim was a former employee of the General Refractories Company in Hitchins, where he worked as a mason. He was a Christian and a thirty-five year member of the Grahn Hill Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Burchett.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-five years, Virgie Skaggs Burchett; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Lowell and Jennifer Burchett of Ashland, Michael and Christy Burchett and Ronnie Burchett all of Olive Hill; four grandchildren, Curtis Burchett, Ashley Burchett, Aaron Burchett and Veronica Burchett all of Olive Hill; one brother and sister-in-law, Dave and Linda Burchett of Olive Hill; five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Lois Ramey of Carter City, Eunice Payne of Corbin, Mary and Arthur Lewis of Grayson, Phyllis and J. C. Frazier of Mount Sterling, Linda and Jerry Evans of Mansfield. Ohio; several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Jimmy Barker and Brother Bobby Day officiating. Burial followed in the Burchett-Daily Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Ola Reynolds
1925-2008
OLIVE HILL – Ola Reynolds, age 82, of Olive Hill passed away Friday, May 2, at Saint Claire Medical Center in Morehead.
She was born September 3, 1925 in Elliott County, the daughter of the late Robert and Anna Stevens Middleton.
Surviving are her three sons, Fearl Reynolds, Larry (Teresa) Reynolds, and Wesley Reynolds all of Olive Hill; three daughters, Earlene Gollihue of Olive Hill, Sharon (David) Young of Chester, WV, and Brenda Reynolds of Olive Hill; two brothers, Gene (Ester) Middleton and Cledith (Helen) Middleton both of Olive Hill; four sisters, Sellar Offill, Minnie Barker, Nola Clark, and Monnie (Wayne) Mabry; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a special family member, Stacy Caudill and an Honorary granddaughter, Kimber Rayburn.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Reynolds was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Reynolds; four daughters, Linda Reynolds. Joyce Richmond, and infants, Shelia and Janet Reynolds; two brothers, Lloyd Middleton and Arnold Middleton; a sister, Ella Adkins; and one grandson, Chris Richmond.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, May 6, at 1 p.m. at Oney-Henderson Funeral Home in Olive Hill. Eury Barker, J.D. Riggs, Clayton Marshall and James Bawcum officiated the service. Burial followed in the Binion Cemetery.
Ruby Marcum
1935-2008
GRAYSON - Ruby Marcum, 72, of Grayson, went to be with her Lord Sunday, May 4, in the Hospice Care Center of Ashland.
She was born May 19, 1935 in Hitchins, a daughter of the late Steve and Julia Mae Grizzell Sagraves.
She was a homemaker and a born again Christian.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Todd.
Her survivors include her husband, Fred S. Marcum Sr. of Grayson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Fred “Butch” and Vickie Marcum Jr. and Kevin and Joyce Marcum all of Grayson; two sisters, Avenel Harper and Juanita Lindsey of Grayson; four brothers, Joe Sagraves, Paul Seagraves, Don Seagraves and Harlan Seagraves all of Grayson; three grandchildren, Heather Wages, Justin Marcum and Summer Marcum all of Grayson; and one great-grandson, Tyler Wages.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 7, at 11 a.m. at Malone Funeral Home with Terry Dean and Russell Griffith, ministers. Burial will be in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.
Joseph Work Stevens
1937-2008
WEBBVILLE – Joseph Work Stevens, 71 of Webbville died April 27, at his residence following a long illness.
He was born February 6, 1937 in Lawrence Co. a son of the late Elisha and Emily Edwards Stevens.
He was a member of the Blaines Trace Enterprise Baptist Church and a retired carpenter.
He was preceded in death by a son Joseph Stevens Jr. and a granddaughter Tiffiany Messina.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years Carolyn Reaper Stevens; he is also survived by four daughters, Martha Massie, Regina Stevens and Bobbie Jo Stevens all of Webbville and LaDonna Messina of Ashland; one son, John Reaper of Webbville; one step son, Mike Morrison of Ironton OH; three brothers, John Stevens of Webbville, Elisha Stevens Jr. of Ashland and Robert Stevens of Columbus OH; two sisters, Beulah Faye Rucker of Boaz AL and Patricia Maddox of Flatwoods; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Blaines Trace Enterprise Baptist church by June Lewis and Russell Griffith. Burial followed in the Stevens Family Cemetery. Malone Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Grace Barber
1917-2008
DAYTON, OH - Grace Barber, 91, of Dayton, OH, formally of Grayson went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 25 in Dayton Hospice.
She was born January 10, 1917 to John and Elizabeth Brainard Johnston.
Grace lived most of her life in Carter County and was a member of Oak Grove Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Barber in 1969.
Grace was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was loved and will be missed by her son, Bob (Marlene) Barber of Franklin, Ohio; her daughter, Bonnie (Wilbur) Hall of Middletown, Ohio; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great- great-grandson; a sister, Opal Justice of Wharton, Ohio; and many family members.
The family wishes to express appreciation for all those who assisted Grace in her later years, so she could remain in her home, with special thanks to Mary Huff, and Hazel and Lowell Sloas of Grayson.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Malone Funeral Home by Donald Damron and Timothy Carper. Burial followed in the East Carter County Memorial Gardens.
Orville Eugene “Gene” Brown
1941-2008
OLIVE HILL - Mr. Orville Eugene ‘Gene’ Brown, age 67, of Olive Hill, passed away Sunday afternoon, May 4, at his son’s residence.
Mr. Brown was born March 20, 1941, in Carter County, and is a son of the late John Orville and Ethel Reeves Brown.
Gene had worked for many years as an auto mechanic. He was a Christian and was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Talmadge Brown and Earl Ray Brown; one sister, Thelma Bayes.
He is survived by three sons, Mark Brown, Jeff Brown and Keith Brown all of Olive Hill; one daughter, Sondra Brown of Ashland; one stepson, Brandon Jones of Olive Hill; two stepdaughters, Keisha Jones and Melisa Bryant of Olive Hill; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mick Brown and Roy Brown both of Olive Hill; two sisters, Wilma Crum of Elliott County, and Levon Lilly of Pontiac, Michigan; he also leaves several nieces, nephews and other family members who will sadly mourn his passing.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at the Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Delmar Logan, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Brown Cemetery on Reeves Branch Road in Olive Hill.
Raymond Wease, Jeffrey Lee Brown, Donald Ray Porter, Gary Harris, Roy C. Brown, Joey Brown and Jason Brown will serve as pallbearers.
Kathleen Sue “Snooky” Shelton
1938-2008
WESTWOOD – Kathleen Sue “Snooky” Shelton, 69, of Westwood, wife of Brady Shelton, died Sunday afternoon
Funeral services will be Wednesday, at 1 p.m. at Preston Family Funeral Home in Ashland, by Brother Tim Holmes. Interment will be at the Dixon Cemetery.

WESTWOOD – Charlotte Fay Wright Haynes Davis, 73, of Westwood, passed away on April 29.
