William Harvey Fultz
TENNESSEE – James W. “Bud”William Harvey Fultz, of Knoxville, Tennessee, formerly of Olive Hill, passed away, Jan. 18, at Saint Mary’s North Hospital in Powell, Tennessee.
He was born in Carter County, a son of the late Everett and Opal Cartee Fultz.
William was retired from Ross Laboratories where he worked as a stationary engineer. He served his country with the United States Army. He dearly loved his golden retriever named Bear and had a great passion for the Golden Retriever breed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; two granddaughters, Jamie Blanton and Debbie Fultz; two brothers, Lawrence Fultz and Robert Fultz; one sister, Ruth Sykes.
He is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Elizabeth Birtcher Fultz; two sons, Donald Fultz of Lucasville, Ohio and Andrew Fultz of Knoxville, Tennessee; two daughters and a son-in-law, Linda and Kenneth Wyckoff of West Mansfield, Ohio, Brenda Carroll of Augusta, eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Lois Fultz, of McCormick, South Carolina; one sister, Wilma Parker of Olive Hill. He also leaves other family members and friends who will sadly mourn his passing.
Funeral services were held Jan. 23, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Carl H. Williams officiating. Entombment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Olive Hill.
Family and Friends served as Pallbearers.
Vincent Ray Kimmel
1964 – 2010
GRAYSON – Vincent Ray Kimmel, 45, of Grayson, passed away on Jan. 18, at Sunset Nursing Center in Coal Grove, Ohio.
Mr.Kimmel was born on June 29, 1964 in Morehead, to the late Larry Clay Kimmel, Sr. and Anna Lois Morrison – Kimmel. He worked most recently as a welder in the construction industry.
His father preceded him in death. Survivors include his mother Anna Lois Morrison – Kimmel, one daughter Cristina Horne and one son Jerry Kimmel both of Dayton, Ohio. Four grandchildren Jacob Scot Horne, Zachary Ryan Horne, Dakota Wayne Kimmel and Jonathan Kimmel all of Dayton, Ohio, two brothers Larry Kimmel, Jr. and David A. Kimmel both of Grayson, two sisters Joann Stevens and Anita Kimmel both of Grayson, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends that will all miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held Jan. 21, at the Reedville Christian Baptist Church in Reedville, Ky, with words of comfort and encouragement spoken by Pastor Brian Whitt.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to the Building Fund of Reedville Christian Baptist Church in care of Pastor Brian Whit, 1274 State Hwy 1444, Grayson, Ky, 41143.
Billy Ray Hawes
1937 – 2010
TEXAS – Billy Ray Hawes of Montgomery, Texas passed away Jan. 12, following a lengthy battle with cancer at his home at the age of 72.
Billy was born May 11, 1937 to Harry Hawes and Verna Morgan Hawes in Olive Hill, Ky.
He graduated from Olive Hill High School and was recruited into the United States Air Force for a term that encompassed the beginning of his formal education, lengthy overseas service in the Far East and service in the Pentagon in Washington DC. Upon completion of his military service he attended Morehead State College in Morehead, Ky. and then became employed in the petroleum industry with a local regional refiner and marketer. After gaining several years experience with his original employer, he relocated with his family to the Houston, Texas area and became more heavily involved in the industry until illness forced his retirement.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Verna Hawes, a sister Ruth and two brothers James and Harry Hawes. He is survived by his wife JoNita Hawes of Montgomery, Texas, two sisters, Jane Suttles Sammons of Grayson and Mary Alice Thompson of Olive Hill; two sons Gerald Hawes (Cathy) and William Hawes (Janet) of Texas; a daughter Patricia Eckert (Marc) of Texas and four lovely grandchildren, Macayla, Emah, Justin and Elliot.
Funeral services were held at the Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery, Texas with interment at the Garden Park Cemetery in Conroe, Texas.

Harold Otis Buchanan
1935 – 2010
MOREHEAD – Harold Otis Buchanan, 74, of Clover Way, Morehead, passed away Jan. 19, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 22, 1935, in Tullahoma, Tennessee, son of the late David Toliver Buchanan and Lucy Mildred Jones Buchanan Hill. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Herman Buchanan.
His wife, Gracie Slusher Dillon Buchanan, whom he married Aug. 15, 1974, preceded him in death on June 8, 2007.
He is survived by one son, James Dillon of Morehead, one daughter, Judith Kay and husband Arlie Perry of Morehead, one daughter-in-law, Diana Brown of Elizabethtown, one brother, James Buchanan of Sauk Village, Illinois; two sisters, Lois Noblett of Tennessee and Doris Gish of Livingston, two grandsons, David Blake Dillon and Brandon James Dillon; and one great granddaughter, Payton Dillon.
Harold was a retired employee of the Ball Glass Company in Dolton, Illinois.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 22, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. H. G. Pratt officiating. Burial followed in the Crix Cemetery.

Milton “Ray” Plank
1939– 2010
INDIANA – Milton “Ray” Plank, 70, of Winchester, Indiana, formerly of Morehead, Ky. passed away Jan. 20, at St. Vincent Hospice and Pallative Care Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was born Sept. 29, 1939, in Rowan County, son of the late Elmer Thomas Plank and Cora Mae Esham Plank. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Guy Plank and Homer Plank, and one stepdaughter, Sharon Estep.
Ray is survived by one son, Terry Ray Plank of Beaufort, South Carolina; two daughters, Pam Yates of Okeechobee, Florida, and Dora Mae Caruso of Parma, Ohio; one sister, Dixie Blythe of Morehead, Kentucky; two brothers, Warren Plank of Morehead, and J. D. Plank of Kirklin, Indiana; three grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 24, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Butch Kelsey officiating. Burial follow ed in the Adams-Plank Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Aubrey Little, Paul Cooper, Clay Clark, Harry Clark, Billy Plank, and Robbie Dorsey.
Robert “Paul” Underwood
1940 – 2010
GRAYSON – Robert “Paul” Underwood, 69, of Grayson, went to be with the Lord Jan. 19, in Grayson.
He was born Aug. 29, 1940 in Carter County a son of the late John Edward and Lula Jane Wilburn Underwood. He was the owner of H&U Horizontal Boring for 30 Years, Owner of Grayson Speed and Custom Shop, retired construction worker, and a member of the Iron Hill Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents Mr. Underwood was preceded in death by one son, Robert Mitchell Underwood; one grandson, Mitchell Paul Underwood; and one infant brother Finley Earl Underwood.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Carolyn Sue Bond Underwood; one son, John Edward (Michelle) Underwood of Olive Hill; one daughter-in-law, Jean Ann Underwood Rose of Greenup; one grandson, Jonathan Michael of Olive Hill; four granddaughters, Samantha Sue and Brittney Renee both of Greenup, KaLeigh Michelle and Danielle Renee of Olive Hill, two brothers, Donald(Shirley) Underwood, Burl(Norma Jean) Underwood all of Grayson; two sisters, Faye(Tim) Coleman of Grayson, Janet Renee (Eldie) Montgomery of Ohio; also surviving are several nieces nephews and friends.
Services were conducted Jan. 22, at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by Tim Stamper and Ryan Duncan.
Burial followed in the Boone-Grassy Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bill Kelsey, John Brooks, Don Underwood, Burl Underwood, Vincent Arnett and Tim Coleman.

Bertha Catherine Vanlandingham Murphy
1924 – 2010
GRAHN – Bertha Catherine Vanlandingham Murphy, 86, of Erlanger, formerly of Grahn, passed away Jan. 20, at the Saint Elizabeth Hospice Care in Edgewood, Ky.
She was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Ab and Minnie Pearl Phillips Vanlandingham.
Bertha was a retired employee of NCR in Dayton, Ohio, where she worked as an assembler.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of six years, Eugene Murphy; four brothers, Frank Vanlandingham, Homer Vanlandingham, Oscar Vanlandingham and Kermit Vanlandingham.
Her survivors include two daughters, Kathy Murphy of Erlanger, Ky. Jeanne Brinkman and companion Peggy VanVleet of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren, Regina and Michael Fewer, Jennifer Hay and Sam Cox, Andy and Carly Brinkman; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Fewer, Sammy Cox, Nathaniel Cox, Abby Brinkman and Emily Brinkman; one sister, Mary Lou Waugh of Olive Hill, Ky. She also leaves several other extended family members who will sadly miss her.
Funeral services were held Jan. 24, at Globe Funeral Chapel in Olive Hill, with Brother Gary Waugh officiating. Burial followed in the Vanlandingham Cemetery in Grahn, Ky.
Family and friends served as pallbearers.
Eddie Ray Thomas, Jr
1964 – 2010
MOREHEAD – Eddie Ray Thomas, Jr., 45, of Morehead, passed Jan. 21, at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.
Born March 11, 1964, in Rowan County, he is the son of Eddie Ray, Sr., and Patty J. Hall Thomas of Morehead.
In addition to his parents, Eddie is survived by his wife of 20 years, Donna Jean Jones Thomas, whom he married April 1, 1989, a daughter, Carly Rae Thomas, at home; and a sister, Jackie Thomas Fields of Lexington, Ky.
Eddie was manager of Eddie’s Service Center. He was a 1984 graduate of Rowan County High School and member of the Johnson First Church of God.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 23, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ben Furman and Rev. Tim Rhodes officiating. Burial followed in Brown Cemetery.
Pallbearers were John P. Northcutt, Ronnie Day, Tom Galbreath, David Zimmerman, Dale Davis, Mike Fields, and Allen Ravenscraft.

Loretta Christine Kitchen Johnston
1938– 2010
GRAYSON – Loretta Christine Kitchen Johnston, 71, of Grayson, went home to be the Lord Jan. 18, at the Cleveland Clinic, surrounded by her loving family. She was born May 18, 1938 in Carter County, Ky.
A daughter of the late Orville and Hattie Huffman Kitchen.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her Loving Husband of 51 years, Carl R. Johnston in January 2005.
Loretta is survived by her children, Daughters, Carletta(Ronnie) Rose of Grayson, Lynne Jarvis of Summit; Sons, Steve Johnston and Shannon(Andrea) Johnston of Grayson; Four Grandchildren, Kim Rose, Ronnie R. (Regina) Rose all of Grayson, Laney (Scott) Jarvis McDowell and Kati Jarvis of Ashland; Four great-grandchildren, Marissia and Robbie Shaffer, Trent Rose, and Chloe Riggs all of Grayson.
Loretta will always be remembered by those who knew her best for her quick wit and wonderful, caring heart as she always tried to help those in need. She was former owner of the Shangri-La Restaurant in Grayson, where she served everything homemade with a smile and a sense of humor. She loved to garden, quilt, and chat with all her many friends and pen pals. Her Happiest moments were when she could fix big meals for her friends and family.
Loretta was a member of the Oak Grove Church of Christ.
Services were conducted Jan. 23, at the Sparks Funeral Home in Grayson by pastor’s Tim Carper and Terry Harris.
Burial followed in the Kiser-McGinnis Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Jim White, Lowell Sloas, Jeff Clevenger, Ronnie Rose, Ronnie Ray Rose John Bellew, and Frankie Sloas

OLIVE HILL – James Morton Brewster, 76, Olive Hill, passed away Jan. 21, at his residence.
He was born Sept. 21, 1933, in Carter County, son of the late Robert Lee and Anna Dee Conn Brewster. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Melvin, Wilford, and Norton Brewster, and five sisters, Blanche Tackett, Clara Davis, Mae Haywood, LouElla Gee, and Geneva Cox.
He is survived by his wife, Earnesteen Conley Brewster, whom he married July 10, 1953; one son, Danny Ray Brewster and wife Teresa of Shelby, Ohio, five daughters, Kathy Wise and husband Paul of Celestine, Indiana, Christine Kilgore and husband Keith of Olive Hill, Brenda Surgener and husband Terry of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Debbie Brewster and fiancé, Bob Stacy, both of Morehead, and Rhonda Brown and husband Keith of Olive Hill, 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, four step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild.
Also surviving are two brothers, Willard Brewster of Olive Hill, and John Brewster of West Milton, Ohio, and two sisters, Fern Fultz of Marion, Indiana, and Charlene Horton of Olive Hill.
Mr. Brewster retired from Empire Steel in Mansfield, Ohio, and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 24, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Lloyd Dean and the Rev. Daniel Long officiating. Burial followed in Olive Hill Memorial Gardens.

WINCHESTER – Betty C. Ellington Warren, 77, of Sturbridge Lane, Winchester, Ky. formerly of Morehead, passed away Jan. 20, at the U.K. Medical Center in Lexington.
She was born Feb. 24, 1932, in Fleming County, Ky. daughter of the late Ed and Mae Denton Ellington.
Her husband, Arnold Elwood Warren, preceded her in death on Sept. 20, 1990.
Betty is survived by one son, Jeff Warren of Lexington, Ky. one daughter, Debbie Bigelow of Winchester, Ky. four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and one step great-granddaughter.
She was the owner of Betty's Personal Care in Morehead, Ky. for 30 years.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 23, at Northcutt & Son Home for Funerals Memorial Chapel with the Rev. David Starcher and the Rev. Tom Redmon officiating. Burial followed in Siloam Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Danny Russell, Justin Warren, Arnold Harris, Tim Eldridge, Jerry Warren, and Terry Warren.

GRAYSON – Robert L. Justice, 74, of Grayson went to be with his Lord on Jan. 22, at his residence. He was born Aug. 24, 1935 at Bruin, Ky, a son of the late John and Gladys Casteel Justice. He was a retired supervisor for Smith Concrete Construction and in later years worked for Bush and Burchett construction, he attended Bruin Enterprise Baptist Church and was a member of the Hepburn Lodge #576 F & A.M. in Sandy Hook. He was preceded in death by one brother Everett Justice and one sister Ruby Gillium. He is survived by his wife of 53 years Louella Ridgeway Justice, three daughters Deborah and husband Harold Stinnett of Simpsonville, SC, Pam and husband Steve Baddorf of Arlington, Texas, and Roberta Justice of Bradenton, Fla. two sisters Dorothy Evans of Ft. Meyers, Fla, Susie Simmons of Sandy Hook, Ky; four brothers John Justice Jr. of Reynoldsburg, Oh, Raymond Justice of Ashland, Ky, Eugene Justice and Billy R. Justice both of Elliott County, Ky, three grandsons Christopher Stinnett, Michael Stinnett and Joseph Doughty; one great grandson Aiden Stinnett.
Funeral services were conducted by ministers Enis Lewis Jr. and Tim Nischan. Burial was in the East Carter County Memory Gardens.

Ella Elizabeth “Liz” Wilson

RAYMOND – Ella Elizabeth “Liz” Wilson, 69, of Raymond died Jan. 21, at The Gables at Green Pastures following an extended illness.
A loving homemaker, she formerly worked at Mosier’s IGA and Dec-Rite. She was a member of Millcreek Church of Christ and was a graduate of Pritchard High School, Grayson, She loved reading and visiting her family in Ky. and especially treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren.
She was born February 26, 1940, in Carter County, Ky. to the late Elder Eales and Erie Adams Cotton. She married Kenneth L. Wilson on Feb. 13, 1960, and he preceded her in death on April 21, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Magdalene Cotton, and two brothers, Frank Cotton and Bill Cotton.
Survivors include her three daughters, Diana (Dale) Ormeroid, Raymond; Sharon Mitchell, Marysville; and Kristi (Scott) Cardone, Raymond; a son, Greg Wilson, Nashville, Tenn. eight grandchildren, Tobi (Stacey) Wilson, Ashlynn Wilson, Holly Luke, Shannon (Lee) Stineman, Amanda (Mark) Shoemaker, Brooke Mitchell, Chris Cardone, and Megan Cardone, nine great-grandchildren, Hunter, Austin & Hudson Wilson, Kyleigh & Mason Luke, Garret & Addison Stineman, and Abigail & Tatem Shoemaker; her siblings, Larry (Joan) Cotton, Russells, Ky. Kenneth Cotton, Milford Cotton, and Ellen Steele, each of Grayson, Ky. John Cotton, Florida; and Tam Short and Marge (Harry) Gose, each of Columbus; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Cotton, Flatwoods, Ky. and Ruth Cotton, Gary, Ind. a brother-in-law, Robert Wilson, Urbana; many, many nieces and nephews; and her church family.
Services were held Jan. 25, at Millcreek Church of Christ.

In Addition to her parents she is survived by her Maternal Grandparents; Barry and Connie Johnson Rayburn of Olive Hill, Paternal Grandparents; Kevin Bocook and Tammy Reed of Olive Hill, Maternal Great Grandmothers, Alta Rayburn and Violet Barnett both of Olive Hill, Paternal Great Grandparents; Everett and Sarah Stamper of Olive Hill, one sister; Sierra Liles of Olive Hill, one uncle, Jacob Rayburn of Olive Hill, one aunt, Elizabeth Hoover of Olive Hill, She also leaves several other extended family members who will sadly mourn her passing.

GRAYSON – John Leslie “Blackie” Boggs, 87, of Grayson, passed away Jan. 21, at his residence.
He was born Aug. 25, 1922 at Hitchins, Ky. a son of the late Rand and Rebecca Murphy Boggs. Mr. Boggs was a carpenter, farmer and a U.S. WWII Army Air Force Veteran. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce L. Cains. His survivors include: His wife of 68 years, Jewell Hay Boggs, one daughter, Carolyn Kay Boggs of Grayson, five sons, John F. (Diane) Boggs of Hitchins, George C. (Carolyn) Boggs of Grayson, Billy Joe (Joyce) Boggs of Willard, Ky., Marvin L. (Marsha) Boggs of Grayson and Timmy (Judy) Boggs of Covington, Ky, three sisters, Essie Isaacs, Hattie Baier and Minnie Womack all of Grayson; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Jan. 25, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson with Mike Rice, minister.
Burial was in the East Carter County Memory Gardens. Graveside rites were conducted by the East Carter J.R.O.T.C.

Chester Norton Hillman
1914 – 2010
LAWTON – Chester Norton Hillman, 95, of Lawton, Ky. went home to be with the Lord, Jan. 24, at his residence.
He was born July 9, 1914, in Carter County, Ky, a son of the late former Kentucky State Senator Henry Watterson I and Anna Carpenter Hillman.
Norton was a Christian, the oldest and a life time member of the Olive Hill Methodist Church, where he served as a leader for many, many years. He was the owner / operator of a division of George Transfer Company in Baltimore, Maryland. His terminal was located at Pleasant Valley, Ky, and in 1979 he sold the business to the Transfer Company and then retired.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by; two children, Henry Watterson Hillman II and Barbara Fuller; three brothers, Richard Hillman, Harold Hillman and John Hillman.
His survivors include his wife of sixty-six years, Thelma Armstrong Hillman, a son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Linda Hillman of Olive Hill, Ky, three daughters and two sons-in-law, Yvonne and Tom Brown of Louisville, Ky, Virginia Wilhaucks of South Fulton, Tennessee, Roberta and James Hillman of Olive Hill, thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one brother and sister-in-law, James and Roberta Hillman of Olive Hill, Ky. He also leaves several other extended family members, church family, neighbors and friends who will sadly miss him.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m Wed, Jan. 27, at the United Methodist Church in Olive Hill, Ky, with Brother Bob Burton officiating. Burial will follow in the Hillman Family Cemetery at Lawton, Ky.
His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
