The Grayson Farmers' Market is located under the new shed 2 miles east of Grayson on Rt. 60 on the old county fair grounds and will be open each Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. And again on Thursday evenings beginning at 3 p.m. The Olive Hill market is located on Slone's Supermarket Parking lot and will be open each Wednesday and Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. and again on Monday evening’s beginning at 3 p.m. The quantity and variety of vegetables available at the market is increasing each week with sweet corn and green beans now being available. August 9: The Cains Family Reunion is set for Saturday, August 9, 11a.m. - ? at Carter Caves State Park, behind the gift shop.



August 9: The Descendents of Ruben Ratcliff and Silas Ratliff will have its sixth reunion on Saturday, August 9th beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the Grayson Senior Citizens Center at the corner of Hord and Second Streets in Grayson, Kentucky. Please bring a covered dish, pictures and genealogy to share with friends and family. August 9: The descendents of Edith Evans Civil, Thomas Evans, Sarah Evans Reffitt, Mary Evans Stidham, Anna Evans Bowling Blevins, James Evans, Meda Evans Bowling Sturgill, John Wm. Evans, and Callie Evans Greer will be having a reunion dinner Saturday, August 9, at noon at the Armco Park, Shelter House #8. Chicken and ham will be provided along with paper products and utensils. Family members are asked to bring side dishes, drinks and a wrapped item for auction. All friends and family are invited. August 9: The relatives and friends of the late Frances and Sarah (Kegley) Lemaster and Henry and Dellie (Crisp) Lemaster will be having a reunion August, 9, at the home of Delbert Lemaster, 261 Goodan Cemetery Road off Mocabee Creek Road, in Soldier. August 9: The 1968 graduating class of Prichard High School is having its 40-year class reunion on Saturday, August 9, 2008, 6:30 p.m. at the Grayson Conference Center. The cost is $25 per person or $45 per couple. Invitations and a questionnaire were mailed earlier to all of the classmates we could locate. We are still in need of addresses for the following: James Adkins, Bill Bledsoe, Bishop Estep, Saundra Fite Fisher, Randall Glass, and John Mabry. An invitation is extended to the Classes of 1967 and 1969. Music will be provided by City Heat. August 9: Rodgers Family and Friends Reunion will be held August 9, at 12 noon to 5 p.m. It will be held at Echo Canyon, located off old Rt. 60 on the Carter Caves State Park Road, Olive Hill. Watch for reunion signs. Paper plates, cups and dinnerware will be supplied. Fried Chicken, Cold Cuts, Breads, Bottled Water and Condiments will also be provided. Please bring your favorite side dish or dessert to share with family and friends. Feel free to bring old family photos to share. Please share this information with other family and friends.



August 9: One Room School reunion will be held Saturday, August 9, at 1 p.m. at Globe Christian Church Fellowship Hall. All former students, teachers, and their families are invited to attend the reunion of Lower, Middle and Upper Trough Camp, James and Jones Chapel, Prater, Smokey Valley, Cedar Point, and Henderson Branch Schools. August 9: Grayson Youth Soccer will be having a Soccer “Fun Day” on Saturday, August 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Youth Soccer Fields located two miles north on Rt. 1. Activities will include: registration for Fall Soccer for ages 4-14, free hotdogs and drinks for the whole family, free inflatables and games for the kids.



August 9: Mark your calendars for August 9, and join in a celebration of Travis Fryman’s life. The First Annual Travis Fryman Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser will be held at Legion Park in Paris beginning at 9 a.m. with a tractor show and various musical acts throughout the day beginning at 2 p.m. There will also be food, a dunking booth, corn hole tournament and silent auction. All money raised will go toward the scholarship fund set up in Travis’ memory. Admission will be $5 per person, children 5 and under are free. August 10: The Annual McGlone Creek Reunion will be held Sunday, August 10, at the McGlone Creek School. Lunch begins at 12 noon. Bring a picnic basket and enjoy the afternoon. Everyone is invited.



August 11: The Olive Hill Planning and Zoning Committee will meet in regular session on Monday, August 11, at the Olive Hill Fire House, 395 Tygart Street, in Olive Hill.



August 12: There will be a Carter County Board of Elections meeting in the fiscal courtroom on Tuesday, August 12, 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend. Carter County races up for November election include: city council in Grayson and Olive Hill; school board member in Districts 1,3 and 4; and soil and water conservation. The deadline to file for November 2008 election is August 12, 4 p.m.



August 14: OHHS Alumni and Friends meeting is set for August 14, 7 p.m. at the school gym. Those participating have until August 10 to send in money. For more information call 286-2370 or 286-4574.



August 15-16: Blues, gospel, bluegrass and old time country music will heat up the stage at Greenbo Lake State Resort Park’s amphitheatre on Aug. 15-16, 2008. On Friday Aug. 15, the program for the Colonel Bill Williams Heritage Music Festival will feature An Evening of Blues starting at 6 p.m. Larry Whitt, the Blues Cruisers and da Mud Cats will warm up the crowd for the headline act, Teeny Tucker, starting at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $8 per person ($5 for seniors). Children under 12 are free. There is no reserved seating; bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. On Saturday Aug. 16, the Heritage Music Jubilee will roll on from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., with a two hour dinner break from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Afternoon performers will include Sasha Collette and Gospel Tide, while evening performances will feature the Gospel Enforcers and Ken Mellons with the America’s Bluegrass Band. August 30: The Olive Hill High School Alumni and Friends Association is holding a reunion for anyone that graduated from or attended the Olive Hill High School or elementary on August 30. September 5: Community Hospice is seeking entries for its Art for Hospice Chairs for Charity event to be held during September. Area residents, craftsmen and artists are ask to paint and decorate a chair, stool, small table, mirror or other small furniture items and donate them to Community Hospice. The items will be on display at the Ann Davis Gallery beginning Friday, September 5th, during Downtown Ashland’s First Friday, and will remain on display at the Gallery throughout the month of September. Chairs for Charity will conclude with a reception and auction on First Friday, October 3rd. All proceeds from the auction will benefit the programs and services of Community Hospice. September 6: The City of Vanceburg’s First Annual Shades of the Yesterday Festival will be held on Saturday, September 6, 1a.m.-11 p.m. Festival events include Historical Re-enactments, Civil War and Lincoln History Mobile, music, folk art, and history exhibits, craft and food booths. September 27: Carter County CAReS, Community Assistance and Referral Service, a non-profit agency that provides resources for individuals and families in emergency/crisis situations, has changed the 3-on-3 Basketball Fundraiser to Saturday, July 27, 9 a.m. - ? at New Beginnings Revival Center, 194 Promise Land Dr., Grayson (second road on the left past Grandview Outlet). There will be four age categories and a team entry fee of $40 will cover the entire team.

1) 3rd – 5th grades (as of June 3rd) 2) 6th – 8th grades 3) 9th –12th grades 4) 18 years and up. There will be prizes, lots of food and outdoor activities.
