Jan. 9, 2013 — Authorities have given the “all clear” for activities to resume at West Carter High School after evacuating the building in response to a bomb threat.
“A school custodian found a note in the hallway that indicated an explosive device may be present. In the interest of student safety, we felt it necessary to immediately evacuate the school,” said R.D. Porter, the school’s resource officer.
“We then searched the entire building and the surrounding parking lot. When we were satisfied that no explosive device was present, we cleared the building to resume activities. Classes will be in session tomorrow,” Porter added.
Students were initially evacuated from the school to the adjacent football field, but were shortly moved to nearby West Carter Middle School when it became clear that investigating the building would take some time.
All students were released to return home at the end of the school day.
