Premature baby outlives mother by 38 hours

July 10, 2013 — Jacqlyn Devyn Reann Jordan-Burchett, two-day-old daughter of Jacquelyn Jordan and Jarrod Burchett of Olive Hill, died early Sunday at the UK Medical Center, about 38 hours after her mother died at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead.

The infant was born 13 weeks prematurely and was delivered during unsuccessful efforts to revive her mother who fell down a flight of stairs Friday morning at her home in Carter County, according to Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt.

Delivered in St. Claire’s emergency room, the child was taken to the neo-natal intensive care unit at UK Medical Center where she died at 12:41 a.m. Sunday.

Northcutt said Saturday that preliminary results of an autopsy on Jordan indicated the 26-year-old woman suffered a heart-related incident which apparently caused her to lose her balance and fall.

She had a history of heart issues and had undergone multiple surgeries, according to Northcutt.

Jordan was a nursing student at Morehead State University.

Northcutt said Carter County EMS was transporting Jordan to St. Claire when she stopped breathing. Resuscitation efforts continued at the Morehead hospital but to no avail.

A Celebration of Life service will held 7 p.m., Thursday July 11, at Malone Funeral Home in Grayson.
