Vandalism irks business owner

Sept. 11, 2013 — Police in Olive Hill are investigating a case of vandalism that occurred Sunday night.

Sometime during the night on Sunday, garbage was scattered around the picnic area of the depot and in front of the newly-renovated Scenic Hills Reality on Railroad Street.

“It’s these young airheads on welfare who sleep all day and stay up all night smoking dope,” Scenic Hills owner J.D. Rayburn told the Journal-Times. “These are people who rent these apartments down here and the landlords give them substandard housing. They don't care about anything but getting high and making a mess of this city. We need to stop it by any means necessary.”

Rayburn says he has asked persons who have been loitering and littering nearby to stop and he believes the garbage incident was an act of retaliation.

Rayburn added that he believes the city is doing a good job with trying to clean the area up.

“We have a problem with people who don't have anything else to do,” Rayburn said. “We have a bunch of welfare jerks down here trying to tear stuff up and it’s pitiful.”

Olive Hill Police Officer Sam Lowe is investigating the incident.
