Sept. 4, 2013 — Yesterday, Sept. 3, was the postmark deadline for mail applications from anyone interested in replacing David Jessie on the Carter County Board of Education.
The new board member will be appointed by Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday to serve until the 2014 general election.
The board seat represents District 3, comprised of the Oakland, Courthouse, Gregoryville, Buffalo and Iron Hill voting precincts.
Jessie resigned in June.
State law requires a school board member to be at least 24 years of age, a resident of Kentucky for at least three years, a high school or GED graduate, a registered voter, not be related to a school board employee and not be employed by or be doing business with the Board of Education.
The application notice was advertised in the Aug. 21 and Aug. 28 issues of the Journal-Times.
