Aug. 28, 2013 — An Olive Hill man has been charged with murder after a two-vehicle crash last week left another man dead.
Ricky D. Flannery, 49, was arraigned in Carter District Court Monday via video from the Carter County Detention Center. He entered a plea of not guilty.
He is represented by attorney David Mussetter of Ashland.
A preliminary hearing has been set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 3.
Along with murder, Flannery also was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol when he was booked into the Carter County Detention Center.
Allen Tabor, 54, of Olive Hill, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on KY 174 near Olive Hill by Carter County Deputy Coroner Ronnie Wallace.
Tabor was a retired employee of Morehead State University.
When the Olive Hill Fire Department arrived on the scene, Flannery’s vehicle was engulfed in flames.
Tabor was trapped in the other vehicle. Firefighters were unable to free him before he died from his injuries.
Flannery was transported to St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead by the Carter County Sheriff’s office for blood tests.
Sheriff Casey Brammell said Monday that test results are pending.
Flannery remains in custody at the Carter County Detention Center.
