Aug. 21, 2013 — With the recent retirement of longtime director Lloyd Miller, the Little Sandy Health Department soon will begin its search for a new chief administrator.
In the meantime, Paula Thornberry will act as interim director.
Having dealt mainly with the administration of finances and personnel, Thornberry has been with the department for seven years and has worked in the public health sector for a total of 18 years.
“I don't have a degree in this field. Honestly, I just started out as a clerk and worked my way up the ladder,” said Thornberry.
Until a new director is found, she will manage the day-to-day operations of the organization, while also maintaining her other responsibilities.
“I'm really just filling in until the district board brings in someone for the job,” said Thornberry.
Once the position is publicly advertised, the board will evaluate all the potential applicants and conduct interviews. Thornberry believes that process could stretch into next year.
“By the time the position is advertised, applications are received and all the interviews are held, we could be getting close to the end of the year, which is kind of a dead period,” she said.
“If that's the case, the new director would probably start at the beginning of the new year.”
