May 22, 2013 — If all goes as planned this week, the Carter County Public Library will be the proud owner of the former Houck Furniture building as the new home of its Grayson branch.
Library Director Nellie Jordan notified the news media Monday of events on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday that will finalize the transaction.
The first event is a special library board meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the current Grayson branch library location.
The board is expected to approve and sign its agreement with the City of Grayson to act as conduit for a bank loan to finance the acquisition and renovation of the building.
The second event is a special City Council meeting Thursday at 5 p.m. for final approval and signing of the agreement by the city.
Friday’s event is the ceremonial transfer of the deed to the property, along with keys, at 2 p.m. at the new location, 116 West Main Street in Grayson.
The Friday event is open to the public with a special invitation to library supporters, according to Jordan.
