2% pay raise for Grayson employees

May 29, 2013 — Grayson City Council approved the first reading of its 2013-14 budget in special session Tuesday night.

The $2.1 million budget includes a two percent pay raise for city employees.

Just over $17,000 will be taken out of surplus to meet the cost of the raises.

Council member Terry Stamper amended the budget when making the motion to pass, adding $70,000 for new police cruisers.

Mayor George Steele told the Council that the city was in a good position to receive grant money from the USDA for new cruisers this year.

The national program allows cities to obtain matching grants for the purchase of new law enforcement vehicles.

If the city receives the grant, four new cruisers will be purchased for the Grayson Police Department.

The reading passed on a 4-2 vote with Duane Suttles and Pearl Crum voting against.
